Why no SEC school will ever leave . . . . .
the conference as Georgia Tech and Tulane did back in the 1960's.

https://footballscoop.com/news/sec-recor...s-covid-19

That's 55 million reasons to stay. I read that Big XII members received around 35 million per school.

And, the SEC is expected to jump to 75 million per school once the new tv contract goes into effect in two years.

Talk about uneven playing fields . . . . . .

And why Vandy really doesn't care about winning programs in Football and Men's Basketball .... They're getting paid, regardless of on the field results ...

Things will change as NIL payments start to kick in. There will issues with schools unable to keep up with NIL payment levels. It is very likely that the conferences will set minimum NIL requirements, and there may be some schools unable to meet those. That is the only likely reason someone would step down in conference level, but it may happen.

There is some truth here...

But the SEC gets the most eyeballs so they also have the most value for $ invested by companies.

The school $s really don't factor in...So it doesn't help.

So it boils down to the fanbase. It always does eventually.

Tulane was a founding member of the SEC and has 3 SEC conference championships, more than 7 current members (Vandy, A&M, USCe, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi St., and Kentucky

Plus one in CUSA

Georgia Tech was a founding member of the SEC and won 5 championships and regrets leaving the SEC every day.

So you're saying Ole Miss, MSU, UT, Vandy, UK, SC, Mizzou, Arkansas, and Auburn most years would be happier in another league? Those teams enter each year with about as much chance as most non P5 teams of making a New Years Day bowl, let alone the championship playoff.

Things will change. Sagan retires (if and when), and perhaps Bama falls off of a cliff...perhaps they got another good coach like Dabo from Clemson, and them again they might hire the next Butch Jones...ya just never know.

The landscape of college sports will change dramatically in the next 10 years. The split is coming.

That is a true statement.

However, is that the best model for sports, where an even playing field and true competition is touted? I don’t see how having just a handful of teams make any sport more interesting to watch. There’s a reason professional sports have a salary cap.
