LeMoyne and Mercyhurst have been talking about moving up for a few weeks, we have talked about it on here. LeMoyne considered moving up maybe 10-15 yrs ago but decided not to. They're coming this time.

The clear solution is to learn every school in Division II. ;-)

You're gonna update the D-II map for me too, right? This is an insane amount of movement.

RE: Confirmed and Speculative D1 Realignment Moves for 2022 On
Latest word from Matt Brown last week is that Missouri State could be a done deal to join the Sun Belt Conference.

Bentley and Southern New Hampshire are possible additions to NEC if and when AEC and MAAC finished raiding them.

OVC, Grand Valley State let it out that they are going D1. They are either OVC for a ll sports or as an affiliate in football while rest of their sports be in the Horizon league. It just depends if Bellarmine either accept or rejects Horizon's offer.

Southland with possible more WAC Texas schools and a possible Central Oklahoma joinging the conference.

SWAC is being reported that they will go to 14 instead of Tennessee State for 13, Clark Atlanta would be 14.

MAAC is interested in going to 12, but could lose another school to the AEC. Le Moyne is a top D2 candidate to join the conference. Mercyhurst is another school who could put football in OVC.

Augustana still wants D1 and Summit League.

WAC West Texas A&M could help get the conference football stay afloat.

We have to keep a watch for the GNAC football schools and Western Washington. They may rather be in a D1 conference for all sports than stuck in a conference with schools not have much resources.

You missed the threads about Grand Valley State and Le Moyne? Le Moyne to the mAAC as team number 12, and MAAC is interested in them which is why they are doing a study to go D1.

OP is up to date. As it see it, the only major D1 conference moves left to take place for 2022 are likely:

Quinnipiac from MAAC to AEC
Mount St. Mary's from NEC to MAAC
Le Moyne from D2 NE10 to NEC
Chicago State from WAC to D2/NAIA

All are just best guesses of course, although Chicago State is leaving the WAC regardless of its destination. There are some minor moves for 2022 left, like A-10 men's lacrosse formally announcing, CUSA men's soccer formally dissolving, and the MAC filling out its roster with OVC men's soccer programs.

Technical and nitpicky, but Hartford is going to be a DI independent in '22-'23. They are not offering new scholarships, but will likely have a few legacy scholarship athletes hanging around. The "purge" of scholarship athletes could take a while, in theory, but will likely not in practice.

They will be a provisional DIII member in '23-'24. They will be in a bit of limbo as they are going to honor any scholarships still existing, but there will likely be very few given the general exodus.

In '24-'25 Hartford will give remaining scholarship athletes (if any) the option of keeping their scholarships and not competing, or competing without a scholarship.

'25-'26 will be the first year they are a full D-III member.

Ah, is that what's going on with them? I wasn't sure, as I just saw that they were no longer going to be an AEC member as of next season. So D1 Indy for 22-23. Thanks!

Hartford will be a first-year provisional D3 member this fall. D1 teams, unlike D2 and D3, don't become ineligible in the first year of reclassifying to another division.

What kind of schedule are they going to have as an independent?

Just saw on the WAC board that Chicago St’s AD is stepping down. Probably won’t help their chances of getting into a conference.

Hartford says they will be D1 fully this coming year:

Quote:ACADEMIC YEAR 2022-23

University of Hartford remains Division I, but will not offer new athletic scholarships to incoming student-athletes. The existing athletic scholarships for all returning sophomores, juniors, seniors and grad students will be honored. The University may pursue additional competition opportunities as we seek provisional membership in a DIII conference.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-24

The University of Hartford will pursue provisional membership in a new DIII conference, in anticipation of membership the following year. The existing athletic scholarships for all returning juniors, seniors and graduate students will be honored.

At the end of this academic year, any student-athlete planning to enroll the following year (2024-2025) will be asked to elect if they wish to continue to compete. If so, they will be repackaged on academic and need based aid. Depending on the student, this may be the same or similar packaging. However, if a student chooses to retain their full or partial athletic scholarship, they are able to do so, but will not be able to compete the following year under NCAA rules.

It doesn't specify that they'll be independent for 2022-23 though. Would they still be a member of America East?

Not a D1 conference, anyway. Looking like GLVC, GLIAC, or Chicagoland.

https://www.hartford.edu/news/press-rele...sion3.aspx

According to this they've already been accepted to D3 and will be an active member in 3 years.

Year One = 2022–23
Year Two = 2023–24
Year Three = 2024–25

This is mainly for the sake of clarity; I believe they can be a full Division I member and a Year One provisional Division III member at the same time.

Moves that make sense to me moving forward

TN State to the ASUN - The ASun needs a 6th football school and a 12th member thanks to CUSA. TN State is a football school in a conference that is barely hanging on. Getting TN State would help the ASun accomplish their goal of larger southern state FCS football schools.

WIU to the OVC - This makes too much sense not to happen so I'm hoping whatever bad blood sprung up during the previous recruitment process can be overcame.

I see Tennessee State to the SWAC as more likely, with Tennessee Tech going to the ASUN, both for 2023. I imagine Western Illinois and the OVC are at an impasse in that the OVC probably won't admit them without their FB program and WIU won't pull their FB out of the MVFC.

TSU to ASUN makes zero sense

RE: Confirmed and Speculative D1 Realignment Moves for 2022 On
Updated the OP with the latest confirmed moves (the most recent of which was Mount St. Mary's from the NEC to the MAAC).

The addition of MSM puts the MAAC back at 11 full members. I still have Quinnipiac speculatively leaving for the AEC, which would bring both the AEC and MAAC to 10 members. But if Monmouth is the only school to leave the MAAC for next season, then perhaps Le Moyne, who I have as possibly joining the NEC, goes to the MAAC to put them at an even 12 schools.

In this case, the NEC and AEC would both be at 9 full members. The AEC could easily stand pat at 9 members, as they had for a while prior to NJIT's joining. The NEC may have some D1 options if the MEAC does collapse, though I'm not currently speculating the demise of the MEAC despite Howard's reported invite to the CAA. So the NEC could also stand at 9, or maybe go fishing in D2 again for a school like Bentley or Mercyhurst.
