If they bring JJ back, that simply tells me that Wood has given up on our once excellent basketball program. I don’t believe that will be the case. We have too much history, too many loyal fans, too nice facilities to simply give up on the program. And we just can’t absorb another season with JJ.

Wood should be on the hot seat? Why?

I’m thinking specifically about mens basketball and wrestling. But football crumbled under his watch as well. Now it does appear to be rebuilding well, but he held onto to BW too long. Thankfully it seems his decision to hire RR was a good one. I will say baseball and womens hoops are certainly doing well too. I do think he bungled the stadium rebuild a bit. Nothing to can him over yet, but I would think he doesn’t have a lot of rope to play with. Especially when your flagship program is in the gutter.

First off, it wasn’t his decision to retain Bobby. His hands were tied. So holding him accountable for something he didn’t control is a weird move. Blame Pres. Broderick.

Wrestling was a casualty of growing football. It sucks for those alums and the few fans they have but it was a necessary step to grow the football program.

Basketball is down this season and a change should be made. Rushing to blame Wood before you even know what he’s going to do is weird.

Construction costs went through the roof as we were preparing to build. That limited the scope of the upgrades and we still ended up with a stadium with better sight lines and comfort than pretty much any stadium you’re gonna visit.

The missing amenities like cup holders, another elevator and bathrooms on the second level are being worked on and we should hear more about that soon.

Baseball, womens basketball, and football are on the right path. Most of our Olympics are in great spots; tennis, golf, w soccer, field hockey. And once the baseball stadium is built, I’d put up our facilities with pretty much everyone in CUSA or Sun Belt (save for Liberty). And Woods fundraising ability is a major part of that.

None of what I just said should be news to you or anyone who follows the program closely. He doesn’t belong on the hot seat whatsoever.

Sorry, but this is a horse **** excuse for wrestling being cut. Having to cut a program to balance the budget is a bad mark on him no matter how you want to spin it. Especially a program that is consistently ranked in the top 25 and has had multiple AA. Arguably our best mens program in a region where wrestling has a great history and is very competitive at the HS and youth levels.

That being said and with everything else you mentioned, there is no way he's fired.

Looking at this from a performance standpoint is fair. They were a great program. But financially, it makes a lot of sense.

We still aren't title 9 compliant. We have a waiver currently as we are making progress towards it.

The options were; keep wrestling and add three women's sports (volleyball and two others). Or cut wrestling and add two women's sports (volleyball and one other).

While reviewing the options, Covid hits. The AD loses a bunch of revenue and the answer became really obvious.

I didn’t catch that in the box score. Any one know why this young guy didn’t play? He was supposed to be a terrific pick up for the Monarch’s.

It occurred to me immediately after the game that I didn't remember seeing Smith get in the game at all, and I mentioned it to my wife in asking if she had seen him play any. She didn't remember seeing him either. Seems strange considering how the 2nd half was going that some other players couldn't have been tried to see if it would change anything.

I agree with you. JJ as much as said in his post-game presser that changes were going to be made with the lineup.

It’s not clear to me if Selig would have replaced Wilder if it was his decision, but if all of this is true then I’m glad Broderick is gone. That kind of micromanagement can erode the morale of an organization. Let your staff do their job and hold them accountable. That may have been an isolated incident but it was a big one.

I’m not here to blow smoke. And yes, let your staff do their job. Hold them accountable if they fail, but let them do their job and support them when you can.

I don’t know what clauses are in JJ’s contract, but why would he retire without an incentive that looks a lot like a buyout? I’m guessing he isn’t financially set to truly retire. Who would be at his age?

RE: MTSU
Not saying he would but Jeff has some major health concerns that he's battled and has made a lot of money in his career. He would also be provided some non stressful ways to make money like Bobby Wilder has. He's 61....I hope he's set himself up for retirement.

If he ain't set for retirement with that salary then he's doing it wrong.
