Not passed us by a lot, true. But from 1998/99 through 2010/2011 Kent State was clearly the top program in the MAC. Since then, looking at the entire last 10 years as a whole, I think Akron, Ohio and Buffalo have done a little better. Don't get me wrong, Kent State is still in the top tier of most consistently competitive MAC teams, but reading that statement made me a little sad, that's all. No big deal. Still, they seem almost certain to accomplish having 24 consecutive seasons without a losing record. That is an awesome accomplishment for a mid-major in a competitive conference. And 25 consecutive seasons with 22 winning seasons in MAC play, with only one losing season and two .500 seasons. That is really an accomplishment. I just "miss" Kent State being THE dominant MAC team, even though I realize how unrealistic that would be.

RE: Akronsucks Game
I felt the remote announcers really hurts the viewers ability to know what all went into the bad blood last night. The first play was a great example. They called Akron for an offensive foul and it looked like Trimble hit Carry pretty hard two or three times before they finally called it. Carry was arguing he got elbowed in the head but the announcers thought he was arguing it should be an offensive foul because they thought it was called a defensive foul.

Then the play where the fans were warned for throwing things on the court, Jacobs was on a run out and was fouled pretty hard. He seemed to be gesturing at the refs when he was laying against the stanstion and the PA announcer immediately warned the fans. What happened there? Was something thrown at Jacobs specifically? We don't know because the announcers didn't really say anything. Interesting note that Jacobs appeared to lead the run over to the student section after the buzzer.

When is the last time Kent swept the regular season series ... I'm thinking maybe 2008??

RE: Akronsucks Game
I think it should be noted that when Carry was being recruited initially out of high school, we were chasing. Still good, but clearly the underdogs at that point in time,

And technically, we were two point dogs last night, although the outcome clearly revealed who the better team was: more focus, better team defense, better shooters, more mature, more physical. They have Freeman. The better guards win in the MAC usually and that gives the Flashes a decisive advantage over them. Of course, that doesn’t mean they can’t beat us, but we’d win the majority of games this season, clearly. Playing them in Cleveland would be interesting, but I still think our guard play wins the day.

Sad, but true. Over the last 10 years a few MAC teams have passed Kent State in MAC success.
I hate how we are painted as a black sheep and we are anything but that. Too bad Carry feels that way, but I'm glad that altered his decision.
I have to ask though, who? Who passed us? Akron? Their last NCAA appearance was in 2014. We beat them in the championship in 2017. Look in their rafters. Their last 10 years are empty. And Drew Joyce is the last person that "deserved" to have a retired jersey. And... why? Did he play pro? Was he even in a Championship game? (Don't tell me, I don't really care.)
What the hell is up with everyone on the internet trashing Kent State? The clickbait in the fall about Dix being the worst stadium in NCAA. At least it's not a cash hog put up in the middle of the projects. At least KSU is not charging $30 to sit on crooked seats *Ohio* and have 1 working restroom.
Last month ESPN went well out of their way to point out that the MACC is the oldest arena in the nation. Sure it is. The JAR is every bit as much of a POS as the MACC AND IT'S NEWER! Hell, I had to pay to park my car in the f-n ghetto last night!
Kent is being shrewd with our arenas. It's not pretty. It's not cool. But it is what is best for our university. We don't need a Mercedes because we don't deserve a Mercedes.
The new 330ToGo Facebook page was adament about mentioning how "dirty" Kent State was after the game. Didn't mention the white trash chants coming from the student section. Didn't mention that the last 2 games Kent played at Akron with fans that the student section had to be warned about behavior.
I've been frustrated as y'all about the arena and I'm still not thrilled about Sendy, but he's doing what was asked of him regardless of the low-bar mentality. and I wish we could get students to JUST BLOODY SHOW UP. However, the people throwing dirt from outside of Kent are just as dirty.

Although a win at Toledo is certainly possible, I don't expect it. I think it's entirely possible, though, that they win the other remaining games. I'd really love to see them whip Ohio.

Seen a couple comments about Akron's student section chants. Wondering what they were? I've definitely heard some bad ones, but it seems like the last 10 years or so that type of stuff has died down in college basketball.

So true, people like to pile on and bash. Swap out the MACC for someplace like Cameron Indoor Stadium and the narrative would flip to how historic of a place it is, how quaint, how traditional, I could go on and on. The divide in the NCAA haves and have nots continue to separate at an alarming rate, we can’t keep up financially with the big boys. We’ve beaten teams that have had superior facilities and we’ve been beaten places that resembled a rec center. That we spend wisely on facilities is smart, it’s all we can do, but it also hurts in recruiting. That Coach Sendy can continuously keep us afloat by making lemonade with all those lemons you get fed at KSU is commendable.

I have said this many times, because I have been to both arenas. The MACC and Cameron in terms of look and layout are first cousins. Very very similar.

Hats back on for their trash chants and the warning for throwing on the court. Seriously, they where warned 2 years ago (last time we played there) for blowing a whistle. Then you throw in the chants. That's Ohio State garbage right there. I didn't see our team retaliate because I was busy giving high-fives.
I keep saying, but if our team stays around this year we are going to be really good the next 2 years!

Think what this team would look like with any kind of just average MAC Level post play.

That said ... replacing JHam is going to be a tall (yes, pun intended) order.

I honestly wasn't too impressed with him until the last 2 games. He's doing much better in the paint.
I think the best I've seen Hamilton play this year was against UB. I've been critical of Sendy but he had the team ready to play from the getgo last night. Interior D was exploited in 2nd half but officiating made it hard to defend. Some of the bigs need to work on foul shots. I think both teams left points with their foul shooting. We're going to need to be better. Odu - has no touch from the line.

At the end of the day, Kent State University is a University. It is still an excellent educational institution, no matter the status of its arena. I know that’s all ESPN cares about (and who exactly gives a f**k about what ESPN thinks anyway), but Akron basically bankrupted itself for better sporting venues. They killed a bunch of academic programs to save themselves because their professors didn’t give a s**t about making these programs actually work for their students. If you read the report on the programs that Akron killed, a bunch of them had the reason that read to the effect “We suck and Kent does it better anyway”.

My daughter goes to Kent because her program is academically excellent. Her primary complaint about Kent isn’t the arena, but the food. Big picture: the students don’t care about the arena or other things that get the clicks and views, they care about the basics and Kent is really, really good at the basics. If something needs fixing right now, it isn’t the arena, but the food.

anti-zip, I too thought that had died down, that tasteless fan chants were a 1980s thing. I've heard some sickening ones over the years, especially at the high school level when an elite private school or upscale suburban school was playing an inner-city school. But I thought that that had passed.

I basically agree with all of the last several posts. Kent State getting unjustifiable knocks has been around a long, long time. And as for the MACC, yes, if it were the arena for a big-name school, it would be considered charming and historical.

This came directly from a KSU athletics employee. The two most objectionable chants they heard were “F*** Kent State” and “Sincere is a P****.”

Let’s be very clear. ESPN announcers were not in the building last night they were elsewhere.
Gaffs were prominent and consistent, wrong players names throughout the game.

Also as far as MAC being oldest D1 in nation. Not true but it’s in top 10.
Fordham older and several Ivys. Also I believe Minnesota and Northwestern are ancient.

Problem with MAC center is not the age it’s the maintenance. Bathrooms are third world and always dirty or with plumbing issues

Any comparison to Cameron ( I’ve attended game there) is ridiculous.
It’s like saying Yankee Stadium and Rubber Bowl are similar because they used the same construction contractor.

Kent State does not honor its history. Two NCAA wrestling national championships were held there in the 60’s . When it was suggested that a banner be hung to commemorate the history and offers made to pay for the banners the administration totally rejected.

Anyone find the "Kent is not a state" shirts comically dumb? Correct, we are not a state. We are a state university. Much like a basketball player is not a basketball... But if you finish the full title it is accurate. Morons.

I remember the year the rowdies came to the MACC wearing shirts that said “CAN’T BEAT US” and of course we beat them so they’re trudging out of the gym with people laughing and pointing at the shirts. Talk about a severe case of being self-owned. Just another idea they couldn’t manage to think all the way through. Those fans are a gift that just keeps on giving.
