Some people try to claim that this is all about lazy Judy wanting to keep the tournament close to the conference office but there's obviously more to it than that. These things get bid out and go to the highest bidder (not just C-USA, but virtually all conferences which have tourneys on a neutral courts), and Frisco recently has the been that choice.

The new C-USA will be just as spread out as the current one, and while I wouldn't mind Frisco being a host, there needs to be something put in place where every other year or every third year it goes somewhere else that's more conducive to the East teams.

Frisco is only convenient for LT and SHSU. Not convenient for UTEP or NMSU or the rest of the league. Moving it to the Las Cruces/El Paso area one year, maybe Shreveport another year, then Nashville, etc., would seem more than fair except for Liberty and FIU.

I feel like we should just let the higher seed host. It would look much better for tv

For example (based on overall record):

1) NMSU 22-4
2) MTSU 19-7
3) LT 19-7
4) Liberty 19-9
5) JSU 17-9
6) UTEP 16-10
7) WKU 17-11
8) SHSU 17-11
9) FIU 15-12

SHSU host play in game against FIU.

SHSU @ NMSU
WKU @ MTSU
UTEP @ LT
JSU @ Liberty

RE: 2024 basketball tournament
The ASUN has a format where all 12 qualify and every game is hosted by the higher seed. So there is a travel day in between each round.

That could cause some serious travel in CUSA. In the above hypothetical bracket, FIU could play consecutive games at Sam Houston, NMSU, Liberty, and UTEP.

Here’s a suggestion. Have an 8/9 game on Tuesday after the season ends. Then on Friday/Saturday the top two seeds host the games in their half of the bracket. Then the next week the highest remaining seed hosts the title game.

Granted, if one of the top two loses in the first round there won’t be a big crowd on Saturday. But it does cut down on travel and missed class time.

RE: 2024 basketball tournament
As long as the host team is playing, on-campus games are head and shoulders above any other option. You (usually) get a packed arena, excited and engaged fans, and an electric atmosphere. And all that comes through on TV, which makes broadcasters happy.

When the home team isn't playing, that often goes away, especially in the worst case scenario, when the host team goes down in an early upset, and the only teams remaining left the bulk of their fan bases back home 1,000 miles away.

A central location is what gets you Frisco. You can shift it east toward Ruston, maybe as far as Pensacola, but you haven't really helped the problem. You've just redistributed it.

For JSU fans, we're well acquainted with Frisco. It's not our favorite place -- last time we were there, it was basically Fargo South -- but it'll do in a pinch.

Honestly, once it's that far out, it doesn't really matter. The team will be flying, regardless of whether it's in Frisco, El Paso, Lynchburg, or Miami. Some of our fans might drive to Lynchburg, since it's only an 8-hour drive with some nice places to stop and visit around the midpoint, but other than that, the fans willing and able to fly to Frisco would fly to any other destination.

The arena itself is the biggest factor. I'd rather see the tourney played in a nice, packed, cozy 5,000 seat arena in a quiet town than in a boomy, 3/4 empty airplane hangar in a major metropolitan city. But that's just me.

It would certainly make for bigger crowds and better atmosphere. The WAC did that way back when UTEP was in it but the final 4 was at the highest remaining seed. Worked really well.

Agreed. Provided the Host city has sufficient hotel availability; when we go to CUSA 4.0 let's have No. 1 seed in MBB host MBB tourney and No. 1 seed in WBB host WBB tourney. Screw the curtains and Frisco, Texas. What a joke!

RE: 2024 basketball tournament
I never had a problem with Frisco but never thought it should be there EVERY year. With that said, though, the advantage of the Frisco format is that it allows Men's and Women's tournaments to be played at the same site in that dual game format with the curtain.

But if C-USA sticks with nine schools there's really no reason to keep that up. For Saturday championship games, you simply play all the M/W semis on Friday, Men's quarters on Thursday, Women's quarters on Wednesday, and the 8/9 M&W games on Tuesday. Even if you eventually add a team and go to ten members, all that can be done on a single court which opens up a lot of other prospective host sites if you choose not to have the highest seed host.
