Against a team that essentially zones all night we kept trotting out lineups with 4 guys who Tulane would rather allow to shoot than guard them...I don't understand that one.

I mean, I’m sure you’re right, but we don’t have many shooters in any lineup. Tyler and Lester are about all we have and LQ has been in a funk this season. He seems to finally be waking up.

You could throw Hardaway in there, but most here think he should play sparingly. I’m sure some would call Nolley a shooter, but he misses too many wide open shots for my taste.

You can argue that Nolley is not a shooter...The other team will guard him at the 3 point line...So they definitely feel he is a shooter.

You gotta try your best to have 2 shooters on the floor...You have 3 people to split 80 minutes between...Obviously you can steal some minutes with only one...But you should try to have at least two especially against a team that zones.

Playing all 3 of them together is cool...But that means you have to play them more the ~80 minutes. You gotta manage it.

I noticed at one point Lester was the only shooter in the game and somehow Tulane lost him and he hit a 3. Nice quick release by LQ though. I guess sometimes we luck out a little.

RE: ***The Official Memphis vs Tulane Game Thread***
i am surprised there is not more talk about all the talking that went on during the game (i have not watched the video)

lester and 24 during hand shake line
during timeout, williams being bumped by tulane player right in front of official and no call
during timeout, tulane player talking to penny, as he walked back to other end of court, penny asked official to do something
during free throws, penny talking to lester on sideline and tulane player gets between them
williams and 33 got t'ed early in game for talking during free throws
but that went on the whole game

this was a very weak officiating crew, like guys i have never seen

I noticed that Coach Toppert was really animated a couple times in the second half, way moreso than I've ever seen. I was too far away to figure out anything specific. But he was in our guys faces and on 'em a lot more than I've ever seen from him. Did anyone else see that, or know what he was fussing at them about (I assume it was missing defensive assignments, but don't know)?

Ron Hunter is a good coach - he does a lot of things to help his team win.
But the theatrics? Give me a break.
Players feed off his energy though - which leads to a lot of talking and poor sportsmanship (some of the cheap shots their FROSH #2 did during the game that never got called).

This is not your dad's Twolane team.
They've gotten better every year under Hunter.
Current KenPom is higher than any season-end rating they've had in the history of KP ratings (20 years).
The loss @ Tulane is a respectable Quad 2 loss - with 3 of our starters out.

You are right that loss doesn't look nearly as bad in hindsight.Tulane has some guys that are hard to guard. I noticed Toppert getting after Josh Minott after the Tulane guy hit the third corner 3 after we had gone up by 17. I assume somebody was out of position or not rotating because that dude was wide open.

Harris was our guy running at the Tulane guy but no one was even close. Maybe that was Minott's responsibility?
