RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
His "apology"
Taking to Instagram after Thursday night’s loss to the Blue Devils, Collins shared remorse for the dangerous flagrant foul that saw him ejected from the contest.
“I was going to try to block it from behind but I was going too fast and I couldn’t stop. I realized I needed to stop when it was too late. I never been a dirty player, never will,” he explained. “I wish bro a healthy season and I never tried to hurt anybody but I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/...ar-AATJXNc
From what I can see it looked like - "I couldn't stop - so I just went in full bore and lowered my shoulder and hit him like a linebacker would do to a running back".
Watch the video - he doesn't try to stop. He speeds up so he can take him out.

RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
There is only one way to handle this if you are the Clemson player:
"There is no excuse I can offer for having done this. It was a dirty play and I own it. I apologize but do not deserve to be forgiven, as I could have gravely injured my opponent. I am ashamed of myself and would not blame anybody for forever criticizing me for doing this. I regret this and wish the Duke player well."

RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
Maybe not so much 'laughable' scores, but Utah State's late-season charge took a big step backward as the Aggies lost at home to Nevada, 85-72. The Wolf Pack scorched the nets for 53 points in the second half.
St. Louis, which worked hard to build up its A-10 credentials, lost at home to a desperate St. Bonaventure team, 68-61.
Wright State failed to capitalize on Cleveland State's upset loss to UIC Thursday night, as the Raiders fell at Milwaukee, 60-57. The loss cost Wright State a chance to take over the Horizon League lead.
Iona got dropped at Siena, 70-64. That's two straight losses for the Gaels who are still stuck on 19 wins for the year.

RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
Conference records, conference standings, and bids per conference aren't supposed to matter but Utah State is 6-7 in the MWC and there are at least four MWC teams with better resumes (Boise State, Wyoming, Colorado State, San Diego State). I'd be shocked to see the MWC get five teams in. The Selection Committee says conferences don't matter but historically the teams with the highest NET (or RPI before the NET) tend to be from the non power conferences. In 2006, Missouri State was left out despite an RPI of 21! That year four teams from the MVC made the Big Dance, I think the Selection Committee mentally couldn't stand to put five in. I can see a "deserving" team from either the MVC or MWC getting screwed out this year for the same reason because we have to let that extra power conference team in.

I remember that year well. It's what ultimately cost Billy Packer his job as a CBS analyst, because he couldn't handle the fact that some mid-major teams made the cut. Fortunately, Bradley (my alma mater) didn't shame itself by making the Sweet 16 that year after playing a God-awful title game in the MVC in front of a nationally televised audience. As I remember too, Hofstra had an RPI of about 29 on Selection Sunday in 2006, but apparently, having 3 teams from the CAA in the Field of 64 would have been seen as unsavory. George Mason went to the Final 4 that year.
The way things are shaping up, I think some of the most compelling mid-major conference tournaments are going to be: Atlantic 10, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, West Coast, Ohio Valley. There are several teams capable of winning these tournaments, not just the current league-leaders. With a good showing, non-winners might stand a fighting chance at landing at-large bids. The Power 6 conferences will be interesting in their own right, because these multiple-bid leagues are going to have their share of disappointed members come Selection Sunday too.

Today's slate:
Many of the favorites at home today so I don't know if you'll see many upsets (I just jinxed the favorites!)

RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
Laughable: Rutgers 73, Wisconsin 65 (In Madison). Had the game been at Rutgers, it wouldn't be laughable.
Rutgers is currently NET #94. Unless they move up to NET #75, this will be a Quad 3 loss for the Badgers. Luckily for Wisconsin, it's their first non Quad 1 loss. Their current NET is #19 but that should sink after this game.

RE: CBB Week 13 General Games/Laughable scores
I remember the naysayers when Rutgers was admitted into the Big 10. Scarlet Knights don't belong here....what in the hell is the conference thinking? It was particularly embarrassing when RU lost its last basketball game in the AAC...92-31 to Louisville! Talk about rock bottom. Well, maybe people will change their tune about Rutgers now. Since Steve Pikiell was hired, the Knights have become incrementally competitive.
Not laughable if you're a Davidson Wildcat fan, but DC lost at Rhode Island today, 72-65. Despite the loss, Davidson still leads the A-10.
In the Northeast Conference, Merrimack handed Wagner its first conference loss, 80-65 in overtime, as the Warriors outscored the Seahawks 22-7 in the 5:00 extra frame. Game was played at Wagner.

The bash is fully underway at Club Dazzy (and the ladies are looking lovely). Tonight's music for the event: Nordic/viking heavy metal.

You did, indeed, and I give you full credit for that prediction, S20 (though I thought you had put the jinx on Memphis!).

Man if Purdue had lost that game we'd have been talking about that for a while.
