I feel like JD would thrive as a heat check sixth man that you brought in against other teams' backup 4s and then played him extensively when he is hot.

Sometimes when you have a team with guys that can't create a shot, can;t get to the rim and can't finish through contact, you have to find shots somewhere. I think necessity has created a lot of JD's shot selection issues.

i'd add to that hensley and ody for the sole fact that they are bigs. that gives us like two for fishing in the portal

i'd add to that hensley and ody for the sole fact that they are bigs. that gives us like two for fishing in the portal

Ody shows promise. At UC we've seen a bunch of guys like him that aren't particularly good or consistent early become big time dudes for us as upperclassmen. Nobody should want to run him off.

EDIT: I guess he's technically a junior but he could play 2 more years if he wanted. He's been a good rebounder and he's easily been our best offensive big. There's an argument to be made we should play him more at the 4 and sit JD more (especially when he's not hitting).

I like Ody’s game. He’s a guy who had some success offensively at Wake against good ACC opponents when he was playing a lot more minutes than he is here. We just have too many guys in the rotation for that role. He’s athletic enough to guard the 4, has a revved up motor and could put on a lot of size with a full off season in the Monster Factory. JD just can’t guard the 4 effectively. Opponents know that.

I’d go so far as to say Vic is a better 4 than the 5 he’s traditionally been playing, too.

Also... on DDJ. He's asked to do a ton for this team because basically nobody else can. He takes a lot of step back threes but that sets up his other stuff. He also takes a ton of mid range 2s and gets to the line more than anyone on the team (Only Lahkin draws fouls at a higher rate). We don't have anyone else that can create offense in the half court so it's incumbent on him more than most. With better surrounding talent it would be nice if he didn't have to take so many high degree of difficulty shots, but that's kind of where this team is. Given how many shots he takes for this team (28.1% of our shots when on the floor), he's not actually taking threes at that high a rate (he's taken 98 of them, he's also taken 152 two point shots...he's roughly equally efficient on both, though that's before you take into account drawing fouls and making free throws which has been his biggest strength).

Yeah, if it wasn't obvious vs Houston, DDJ is the only guy on the team that can create offense by himself against high level talent. The rest of our guys were lost against that defense.
