Until UAB upgrades their facility it's gonna be an uphill battle for continued success. And this is coming from a USM fan as we know all about that considering the condition of our basketball arena and our lack of continued success in that sport.

No kidding, most of the peewee stadiums around here are bigger/better than UAB's, however, I do know they're working on it. Promising improvements to the facilities was a big part of getting Coach Dunn to come over from Samford. Can't remember if they've already put it through or not, but it's definitely coming soon.

USM beat writer tweeted today USM baseball has now surpassed 2,500 in season tickets sold which is a school record. The previous record was 1771. With walk up sales and students usually being 500-750 a game USM should once again be in top 25 for attendance this year. And with season tickets starting at $190 that’s a minimum of $500k in revenue so the early exit fee money has now been raised.

WKU proved they don't care about baseball giving our current mediocre coach a 4 year extension. I guess making the CUSA tournament is good enough for our AD.

ODU's season starts just 1 week from today (Friday 2/18) with a 3 PM game at home against Iona. It's the first of a 3 game weekend series.

As a newcomer, I have a question. Why doesn’t UTEP sponsor baseball? Did they have it at one time and drop it? Any chance they start a program?

Doesn't it seem odd that ODU is picked 3rd in the conference (and only 1 first place vote) when they're also picked to have on the Pre-Season All Conference Team -

40% of the infielders (C, SS)
67% of the outfields (LF, RF)
33% of the pitchers

ODU's starters from last season at 1B, 3B, CF, and DH also returned. Coach Finwood said that with Carter Trice moving from 2B to LF to replace the only starter lost from last season (Kyle Battle), he is able to move Chris Dengler back in to play 2B. Dengler started last season at 2B before he had an early season injury that kept him out the rest of the year. He's healed up and the coach says that he's a better defensive 2B than Trice and the double play combination of him and Tommy Bell should be improved.

ODU did lose their top 2 starting pitchers and their 2nd or 3rd best reliever. That said, the pitcher that started last season's CUSA Championship game for ODU is one of the other 2 main starters that is back.

Anything can happen in baseball and my comments aren't meant to take away from any of the other teams and where they were picked. I fully expect Southern Miss, LA Tech, Charlotte, and FAU to be threats to win the title. Some other team could surprise everyone as well. It all starts tomorrow so good luck to all the schools.

EDIT: Baseball America picked ODU as the #24 team in their pre-season Top 25 teams in the country.

I think we lost good bit of talent on pitching and unless we have a couple of incoming pitchers step up we will be knocked down a couple of notches in that aspect however our hitting and fielding should remain just as good if not better and it think that is what the first place votes came down to. Gonna be a fun season. Lets go Monarchs.

Good to hear! I live an hour from M'boro, so this will be my last season of @ MTSU baseball games to watch.
