THIS IS JUST A DEBATE TOPIC! for people to kick around if they want to - - Not an actual argument that UTSA and UAB will be the dominant FB & BB programs in AAC 2.0, starting in 2022-23.
The topic of the debate is: "Resolved: UTSA and UAB will be the dominant FB/BB programs in AAC 2.0."
.
I will start the proceedings by briefly summarizing the case in favor of the resolution:
1. "UTSA will be the dominant FB program after UC, UH, & UCF depart."
I don't really believe they will be THE DOMINANT FB program, but a case can be made that they will be one of the top 2 or 3 strongest FB programs.
I can only think of one bit of data that supports this argument:
The AAC's only top 25 FB programs last year were UC and UH. UTSA made their way into the top 25, and it's not certain that any of the AAC remainers will have top 25 potential within the next 2-3 years. However, I don't follow football as closely as I follow basketball.
I turn point over to those who wish to put forth counter-arguments.
2. "UAB and North Texas will be the dominant BB programs after UC, UH, & UCF depart."
Once again, I don't believe that they will be, but this would be the argument:
Two of the top 3 current/future AAC men's basketball teams - - not including UH, UC, and UCF - - are currently UAB & North Texas.
That's it. Maybe someone else can make a stronger case. My only purpose was to set up the debate and kick it off.
.
Handing it over to those who wish to debate the topic. Enjoy!
