Recruiting Breaking News (2023)
If Powell wins the starting job in 2022 then it's possible we could have a true freshman starting QB in 2023. That said, I'm hoping Smith or May gets the job this fall.

Well we have less than 330 days to find out, but yes that would be my fear too. Those two visits to Wisconsin weren't to visit the dairy farm. That being said he is close enough to take unofficial visits and his future teammates seem excited about his verbal. And CC takes good care of his players they graduate and can handle themselves in public and yes he does develop players. His friends and family will get to see him play without busting the family budget. So there are lots of reasons not to renege on his verbal.

And will other schools respect his verbal commitment.
I really feel once a player makes a commitment any further contacts should be by the player NOT another school attempting to poach a recruit.
To paraphrase: "You shall not covet your competitor's recruit."

That assumes college football programs and coaches are all ethical individuals and we know that is NOT reality.

As someone in the sports business once told me, that's why they have the NLI program. College coaches are like thieves. They'll steal whatever isn't nailed down, signed, etc. etc.

Interesting collection of schools like King, Dexter. WLW, etc.
I've seen Cabana play and he did not look like a P5 back. Wouldn't be surprised if he's moved to the slot at UM or the G5 he'll transfer to in a few years.
My take EXACTLY!

RE: Recruiting Breaking News (2023)
247sports has Viotto #13 in MI. That could be the highest state of Michigan ranking of any recruit we've had. Ron Cooper might have had say one or two ranked say 15 - 25. I'm thinking Lional Dalton, but it was 25 years ago and memories fade...

A P.S. on Lional Dalton. He received the kidney transplant he needed last fall.
Circling back to Viotto. He has a teammate, Darius Taylor, who is a higher regarded recruit than he, but didn't make the 247sports list. I hope C.C. can tap into Walled Lake Western. Taylor is a P5 caliber recruit at RB.

"With Viotto finally at the helm under center, Western went 7-4, beating Lakeland in the playoff opener before falling to Waterford Mott in the Division 2 district finals. Maryland, Syracuse, Marshall, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Kent State were the other schools in pursuit of his services at the next level. Syracuse, Bowling Green and Central Michigan all offered prior to Viotto becoming a varsity starter.
Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton made an offer to him back in the summer. Creighton has brought EMU back to prominence in the past half-decade, leading the program to four bowl game appearances after a near 30-year drought.
Viotto is Creighton’s first recruiting grab for the Eagles’ Class of 2023.
“I always told myself I was going to go some place that loves me, where I feel welcomed and valued and where I have a legitimate shot to compete to play,” he said. “That’s Eastern Michigan. Coach Creighton and his program provide all of that and more. I couldn’t be more grateful.”"

I really like the humbleness of this kid. Hopefully he has an unbelievable season, sticks with EMU, and draws in more top MAC recruits.
Coach Creighton needs to do his part this season by making EMU an even more attractive situation by getting to a bowl and winning it this season.
