NFL Combine - UAB
With Alex getting the invite, is he the first post-return player to make it? I think JJ Nelson was our last one to be invited if memory serves me correctly

How did JJ miss out on the prize money? Adidas was offering the money, but JJ wore Nikes when he ran his 40?

Actually, Jordan Smith and Austin Watkins were both invited last year, but then the combine was cancelled in-person because of Covid.

That is why i didn't remember, no results from the combine. So happy Austin is with my Bucs and hope he can stick. The 5 and 6 WR spot will be a good battle, but one he will be in for sure. 49ers were very high on him till the injury

The rule in question was that adidas only opened the contest up to players at the combine they had agreed to terms with. They had deals signed with 5-6 guys they thought would be the fastest but hadn’t approached JJ.

They realized they had already gotten the publicity for the contest and since they didn’t have a contract with JJ saw no reason to sign him to a contract after the fact since the value had already been provided by him for free.
