Oh I saw this already. It's great. nothing like being a stick in Dan Snyder's eye.

DCFC is the best value for sports entertainment in the metro detroit area. tickets are inexpensive, the environment is one of a kind and the beer and food are cheap. what more can you ask for?

I use to love college basketball former Michigan season ticket holder and use to attend 3-4 emu games a year, Since Covid I have not been able to get juiced up or excited about the regular season. Anyone have any advice?

I’m with you. I used to LOVE college basketball. But I can’t get remotely excited or even interested. I don’t know what my problem is…

I don’t think it’s COVID. If I had to guess, it’s that most teams rebuild year after year. You used to be able to follow players and watch them develop over time; not so anymore. And that kind of takes the joy out of it for me.

I'm with you guys as well. The sparsely attended MAC arenas I see on TV would indicate that we are not outliers. There is tremendous fan value in being able to hate Christian Leitner or James Thompson for 3-4 years, today they might be playing for your team the next year.

The MAC used to be the MEDIOCRE Athletic Conference (#14 in D-I hoops last year).

Now look at 2021/2 with WMU, CMU, EMU and NIU all tanking (without lottery picks during signing period 03-lmfao)

We can debate this but I think it is a MIDWEST Mid-Major problem and it related to recruiting and I still maintain that the shallow pool of h.s. talent in MI hurts a lot of MI-based teams.

Steve you are obviously spot on. Look at Izzo's roster, he used to own Michigan and probably still does, there just ain't that much to own anymore. Detroit, Flint and Saginaw recruits used to propel the MSU program, today they most certainly do not.

Remember in 2009 and the recession? A lot of families moved out of state a long with them their children. I as a substitute teacher saw it first hand. We had a terrible time getting students, teachers and substitutes. Our high school recruiting needs to expand.

RE: Monday Musings
Well, in the last two post Jerry and Carl have made my point.

I do remember after the Great Recession Detroit population, schools, etc. really emptied out. This was a trend which was occurring across the Midwest as automobile plants shuttered. Flint, Saginaw, Detroit, etc.

I remember when Benton Harbor produced excellent boys basketball players like Chet "The Jet" Walker. Lansing had the Magic man. Flint had the Flintstones. I started following MI h.s. recruiting about 30 years ago when the state had Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Vashon Leonard, Theron Wilson, etc. ALL in one senior class. That's when MI used to produce NBA stars.

OTOH, MI h.s. football seems to have held up pretty well. It seems much more spread out across the state and also much more suburban (e.g., our QB recruit, our WRs from Dearborn, Belleville, etc. etc.). We have other B1G teams, SEC teams, etc. recruiting MI hard. No lack of FB talent.

Why h.s. football hasn't taken the same hit is hard to say, but FB and hoops are very different games, high school wise.

Further evidence of the hoops drought in Michigan.

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/high-...310916002/

The last decade was a desert. Lest I be wrong, I counted TWO Michigan High School basketball player from 2010 - 2019 in the NBA, Monte Morris and Denzel Valentine. Cassius Winson is G League with the Wizards. I didn't see any NBA players from Class B and below from the 2010 - 2019 decade.

Dream Team: Campy Russell, Magic, Shane Battier, Dan Majerle, and Glen Rice. I believe he bypassed Chris Webber because of the UofM scandal. One will note that all of the were from the 20th century.

Those no nothing pundits (and broadcasters) who talk about the greatness of Michigan H.S. are stuck in the 20th century. They may as well tell us about the greatest of the U.S.S.R which hasn't existed for 30 YEARS!!

And I agree with Super that maybe we need to look at what has happened to MI high schools since the factories started closing and then the Great Recession.

I remember when the City of Detroit was taking out bonds to build new high schools and then the bottom fell out.

Class A
First team
Terry Mills, Romulus, 1986

Steve Smith, Detroit Pershing, 1987

Draymond Green, Saginaw, 2008

Michael Talley, Detroit Cooley, 1989

Mateen Cleaves, Flint Northern, 1996

Second team
Larry Fogle, Detroit Cooley, 1974

Sam Vincent, Lansing Eastern, 1980

Cassius Winston, U-D Jesuit, 2016

Jalen Rose, Detroit Southwestern, 1991

Tom LaGarde, Detroit Catholic Central, 1973

Third team
Antoine Joubert, Detroit Southwestern, 1983

Denzel Valentine, Lansing Sexton, 2012

Jay Vincent, Lansing Eastern, 1977

B.J. Armstrong, Brother Rice, 1985

Morris Peterson, Flint Northwestern, 1995

Even UofM doesn't have a Michigan kid averaging more than 5 PPG this year.

Benton Harbor lost its blue collar jobs long before 2008 recession. Three foundries closed, a major auto parts supplier and all three Whirlpool manufacturing plants as well as Clark Equipment. An atomic bomb of economic collapse. In fact SW Michigan has lost most of its manufacturing and replaced them with beds and breaksfasts and wineries.

You are correct. Add Flint, Saginaw, etc.

My hypothesis is that the turn down in MI h.s. hoops correlates timewise with the demise of manufacturing in Michigan. (one will note that automobile factories are springing up all over the U.S., but not like in MI the way they were say 75 years ago).

I'm old enough to remember the migration from the south to Michigan for good paying factory jobs. Today if one wants a better chance for a factory job working on the assembly line they are more likely to be in the south.

RE: Monday Musings
BTW, does this paragraph from the UofM signing day press release tell us anything:

"Washington, D.C., native McDaniel, a 5-11 point guard, was the first commitment of the Class of 2022 and enters his final year at St. Paul VI Catholic in Fairfax, Va. He plays in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), the same conference current Wolverines Hunter Dickinson (DeMatha) and Terrance Williams II (Gonzaga) played in before coming to Ann Arbor."

So UofM is recruiting the Washington, D.C. area harder than Michigan. Tell us anything?????

Two from the Miami area, one from St. Louis and one from DC-area.

MSU signed two. One from Minnesota and one from So. Cal.
