It’s not rocket science.
Exactly. This is why we need a marketing professional to recruit students. Instead we have a bum doing a sh!tty job of trying to make us look pretty instead of getting our name out there. Other mid-major Michigan universities are flat out killing us in their marketing efforts.

She stated that the $75K bonus and raise for the President were decided upon in December of 2020 based on his performance and overall financial position of the University.
But if you recap 2020 you will see that he fired scores of frontline and support staff across campus. Departments that were well below funding baselines to begin with were gutted even more. Scholarships that were meant to be allocated for students were held back. Funding lines promised for upgrades and support were pulled. Graduate assistantships were slashed.
They didn't give him the bonus they agreed to in December 2020 because of optics, so they waited until last month.
This is a joke of a board, propping up a joke of a president. Our University deserves so much better than these clowns. They have no vision for our future, and are hopelessly out of touch with our present.
I would suggest every alumnus on this board to take the time to watch the Board of Trustees meeting -- the link is posted on their website: https://wmich.edu/trustees
I highly doubt any of the Trustees follow this forum, but I would like to make a suggestion. If you're on the board, you owe it to the WMU community to at least look like you're interested in the public comments towards the end of the meeting. When certain members of the board are having a side conversation or fumbling around while on a Zoom call during the comments, it certainly doesn't look like you have any interest in what people have to say.
On a side note, my wife was on a company wide Zoom meeting when an employee made a remark caught on audio. At the end of the meeting it was announced the employee was no longer employed with the company.
Come on man, we need to know what the remark was now that got them fired!
The comment was: "I like naked women".
I cannot make this up.

It's pretty bleak.
Really wish we could open up the international pipeline again - especially for graduate students. Many of the agreements we had in place with Brazil, Saudi Arabia, UAE, DR, and Hong Kong dissolved between 2016-2020.
I can't understand how LSSU exists. Northern should just absorb them.
These trends were predicted many years ago. GVSU, UofM, and MSU all made moves a decade ago to secure their student pipeline. Oakland has carved out a nice niche for itself, and Wayne State stayed local for undergrad and really grew their graduate profile.
WMU foolishly believed they were competing with MSU. We also foolishly thought the Kalamazoo Promise was going to be some kind of game changer for us.

LSSU does enroll a fairly large contingent of students from Canada which seems to keep enrollment numbers steady. I know they have a Canadian Thanksgiving holiday break at LSSU to accommodate Canadian students.

If there is something that anyone can do about it, then do it. But for now this entire post could be deleted before perspectives student get the wrong idea.

Prospective students can find this data, too. It's public. This board isn't going to hide it from them.
If anything, they will see a group of concerned alumni working to make things better.
I can't imagine a prospective student jumping on this board anyway.

RE: WMU Leadership
To prospective students: Our enrollment director decided to rebrand for no reason, & the faculty is upset b/c a lot of staff got released b/c of the nation-wide shutdowns. Our school is experiencing enrollment decline in a similar number that's affecting the whole mid-west outside of a couple schools that require 4.0's.
