2pm tip off in Hattiesburg.

Is USM up for another battle, like Thursday when they pushed UNT early?

Will Rice have the A game?

Mullins has to look for his shot more. He's had a bunch of good looks over the past 4-5 games that he's passed up. Doesn't look like he has any confidence in his outside shot. Makes the perimeter easier to defend.

ESPN+ feed is down. So are the live stats. Meaning unless somebody is in Hattiesburg, the game has become a mystery.

ESPN - We’ll get this fixed ASAP.

Holding my breath, turning Rice Owl blue.

It is now supposedly 22-19 Rice. I'm starting to think ESPN won't get this fixed ASAP. It's also very appreciated that Rice's twitter account has recognized that nobody can follow the game and has resorted to posting more regular updates (that was sarcasm).

Their Pierre has 5 three pointers! And ours only has two!

.500 for theirs and .667 for ours

Still up, 32-30 Rice

ESPN feed now back, so I can go back to criticizing. Rice extended the lead to 9 before we left open three Southern Miss shooters behind the arc. 32-30 now. Pera was signaling for a TO before the last shot had even been taken, which was kind of funny. Not a good couple minutes for Sheffield, who I think was responsible for a couple of the blown defensive coverages and also turned it over. There have been spurts where he's been good this year, but there have also been some stretches where he's really struggled on both ends.

3 of those 5 from Jaron Pierre were in a 1:05 stretch that resulted in a Rice timeout.

Overall 15 of the last 17 points from both teams from way downtown (including Carl P’s second and one from QO)

Oh they’ve got THREE Pierre’s? So not fair, we only have ONE!!!

RE: MBB at USM
Small things but stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid things. 39-34 Rice. Southern Miss scores with something like 7-8 second differential between game and shot clock. If we were smart, we would've waited a few seconds before inbounding the ball and been able to take the last shot. Instead, Fiedler rushes to inbound the ball assuring that Southern Miss would get one final possession with at least 5+ seconds to score. It didn't end up mattering...Southern Miss got a steal and a layup but Evee hid a buzzer 3. But process means more than result and that wasn't a winning decision.

Anyway, rant finished, 42-36 Rice at the half. Fiedler's best offensive half in a while. He's got 10 on 4-4 shooting and 3 assists. Balanced scoring overall - every starter has 6+. But I'm increasingly worried about our depth. Sheffield hasn't been great over the past few games, McBride has been inconsistent, and everybody behind them gets spotty minutes at best.

54-43 Rice at the U16. Easily the most confident that Olivari has looked all season. He's up to 13 points. Still some really shoddy defensive work, but Southern Miss has helped us out this half.

58-50 Rice. This game should be a blowout, but turnovers and defense kind of make that difficult for us.

RE: MBB at USM
Gotta get Abercrombie or Geron in there for Sheffield's minutes. Zero confidence in everything he's doing, big or small. You can see it even in that simple pass at midcourt off of the inbounds play. It looks like he's playing with the fear that every single thing could get him benched, which makes it impossible to play effectively. Easy to say he needs a reset, much more difficult in practice.

Meanwhile, we're now missing a ton of easy looks. Letting Southern Miss creep back into the game. 58-51 Rice.

63-51 Rice, Southern Miss TO. Awesome job by Mullins all game of finishing at the rim through contact. Really effective game from him attacking the basket.
