Law firm investigates UM hockey over allegations of COVID deception, toxic culture
Paywalled but: https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/202...ce=twitter

From the article:

"The accusations summarized in Berman’s letter include:

Head coach Mel Pearson “instructing students to lie on their COVID-19 tracing forms.”

Pearson and Director of Hockey Operations Rick Bancroft discriminating against female staffers and “creating a toxic work environment for female support staff.”

Pearson retaliating against a student athlete for “raising concerns” about the hockey team’s culture.

Bancroft knowing about sexual misconduct committed by the late athletic doctor Robert Anderson."

I cannot overemphasize how hard I am laughing right now. Mel Pearson, what a POS. Playing fast and loose with Covid 19 rules, which puts players and people in the program at risk. It also cheats on the ice. And they're treating women like crap. Nice going. Totally appropriate for the original country club for blue chippers.

Mel sucks. I hope this buries the program.

I had a discussion on Twitter with a scUM hockey fan recently and these were his excuses for cancelling the game against us--

Other schools did it too
It was indeed for health and safety protocols
You haven't won a NCAA tournament game in 40 years, we've won six titles
How dare you bring up Robert Anderson

Still the most arrogant "amateur" athletic sports program in America.

When I first read this and was thinking about it, I wondered, where is there an investigative reporter who wants to get all access cut off to all UM sports? Then I re-read your headline. Why is a law firm investigating this? Is somebody getting ready to file a lawsuit?

This could get really entertaining for those of us who are not Wal Mart Wolverines. I gotta hope the store has some popcorn left on the shelf.
I wonder if anybody has passed that link on to somebody at CHN? They've been writing a series and I'm sure this would fit right in. 03-lmfao
It won't be me but I bet somebody tips them off so they can investigate.

From what I read, the schools Title IX office hired the law firm.

The law firm is involved because of the Anderson investigation and the scUM director of hockey operations allegedly has knowledge of Anderson's abuse.

CHN is already on the story.

Report: Michigan Hockey Program Being Investigated For Various Allegations
CHN Staff Report

Quote:Michigan coach Mel Pearson is accused of instructing players to lie on their COVID-19 tracing forms during last year's NCAA Tournament, among other allegations currently being investigated by the university.

Documents obtained by The Ann Arbor News describe a set of allegations being investigated by outside law firm WilmerHale. That's the same firm that investigated former Michigan athletic doctor Robert Anderson for decades-long sexual abuse. Anderson was an employee from 1966-2003 and passed away in 2008. Last week, Michigan settled a lawsuit with Anderson abuse survivors for $490 million.

The complaint about the hockey program was filed last fall with the University of Michigan’s Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX Office by an anonymous person. The law firm informed that person in October that the investigation had begun
