Court blocks potential BNSF strike
https://www.star-telegram.com/news/local...09413.html

BNSF is implementing a new attendance policy for its employees starting on Feb 1, in which employees get 30 points and have points deducted every time they take a day. Employees can only get points back for working multiple weeks without a day off. The 30 points lasts your entire career at BNSF, not resetting on an yearly basis nor growing based on time employed.

The unions are upset with this plan and were planning to strike, however BNSF sued and was today issued a temporary restraining order preventing the unions from striking. The judge said a strike would cause the company “substantial, immediate and irreparable harm.”

Employees are expected to work wether they are healthy or sick, and they essentially can never take a vacation.

I'd want to read the attendance policy , tbh...

To say they only get points back for multiple weeks work? Ehh... we'll see.

Scheduled shifts.

If you worked Monday through Friday you could miss 2 straight weeks and then the first 3 days of the third week without needing to earn points back.

It’s a unique plan. Would love to chat with their general counsel to see how they came up with it.

From what I understand even if you’re not scheduled, you still have to be on call for the day. If you request to not be on call for both Saturday and Sunday that’s 7 points.

RE: Court blocks potential BNSF strike
there’s a reason I’m now self employed…

the 14 day continuous stretch to achieve bonus points is nothing but a means to bring back the robber baron/antitrust era … fk that…

I’m not a union fan, but this is valid in my book…

also, I only see the better employees leaving while the co. is left with nothing but the hungry dregs … in essence, you’re dicking yoursef … aka The Peter Principle

I can also see this being manipulated to weed out the older folk by default/$$$/selective attrition

that’s off the top o’ me head … I’m certain others can lend more value to the position(s)…

Reading the complaint, it looks like only 50% of BNSF's workforce has been available on any given day, as compared to 90% for their competitors. Sometimes you reap what you sow.

Well, that’s just a career choice problem, then.

how's that? if choices are limited on both sides, there's only one end result in the long term equation....

I'll let you figure that out....you have chops....
