- I'd like to see more minutes for Hornbeak. With one redshirt and one kid who didn't want to run in practice we're down to 11 scholarship players. Between COVID and injuries I think we should be keeping all 11 in the rotation because we'll likely have less than 11 available each night. Also, Hornbeak seems like he could be a force on the glass. He's at 102 minutes for the season now and he's the leader at 12.9 rebounds per 40 minutes. Hamilton's at 9.7, no one else is over 9. Last night he had 4 in 12 minutes. He could be our best rebounder as a freshman. How often is a freshman the team's best player at anything? He needs to be brought along because he could be a real big factor in the future.

- Brenden Moss must be licking his chops. By all accounts he's an excellent shooter. He should have a great chance of playing a big role as a freshman.

- I remember saying this last year as well, but Beck needs to shoot more threes. With Santiago MIA Beck is our best three point shooter. He's at 41% this year last year he was at 46%. For his career he's 38% at 49-128. I know he's not a high volume shooter but 128 is not a small sample size. At this point we know he can shoot it. And we know no one else can. So he needs to be taking 6+ threes every game from here on out. Will his percentage drop? Sure. But it could drop 11% and he'd still be above the team average. If we're going to be taking threes, let the guy who's making them do it more.

I agree with much of this ... and will add it has been the most disjointed season I've ever seen, including last year. Garcia is in and out, Odusipe is in and out (both for health reasons) Gio is in and out now. Hornbeak (I'm guessing Covid) has been in and out. I doubt if Kent has had a consistent starting lineup/roster for three straight games since before Christmas.

At one point Hornbeak was starting, then Covid. Hope he's working his way back up the food chain. All that said ... even at 100-percent this was probably not a 20-win team this season, unless there was a breakout player beside Carey. Was hoping Johnson could be that guy, but clearly not.

As for Brenden Moss ... don't hold your breath. Sullinger was supposed to be instant offense as well as a freshman. But College BB is a different game at a different pace. Sullinger has shown he can hit 3s ... but he hasn't shown he is a dependable 3-point shooter, yet. Next year.

Much as anything, this team needs a baseline bruiser - a mad dog in a meat market - who can deliver at least 12/8 nine nights out of 10. I think that would lift all boats in a big way.

That probably means juco ... but the good news is due to Covid there are a lot of 3-year jucos available. Just got to fine one ... OR TWO!!!

Yeah, a baseline bruiser and Sendy needs to try to get "scorers", too. I know it is easier said than done, but just at least one player that can score in bunches. A scorer isn't necessarily a player who shoots a great percentage, either. Things this year wouldn't be so blah if they hadn't lost those two home games to Central and Northern. By every measure they are the two weakest teams in the MAC and there is just no excuse for losing to both at home.

It's hard to criticize the defensive effort, as opponents' fg% in MAC play ranks second only to Toledo by 1.4 percentage points. Offensive shooting has been awful, though, only .001 percentage point better than last place CMU. While their defense of the 3-point shot is pretty good, ranking 4th, they are, not surprisingly, dead last in shooting treys. Defense gives a team a chance to win every night, but you can't win if you can't score for crap.

For some reason it seems Kent has gone from recruiting 'scorers' to almost exclusively recruiting 'shooters' and when the shooters aren't consistent, it's tough to find playing time, especially if they are deficient in other areas. I agree ... MORE SCORERS ... and less shooters. Next year this team will have three shooters (Gio-Sully-Moss) and just one scorer (Carey). Jacobs is not really a scorer, consistently, but his defense, rebounding, assists keep him on the floor.

Jimmy Hall is the only player to be in the Top 10 in both scoring average and FG%.

Gio and Sullinger are good comparisons, but Moss isn't. Transitioning from HS to college as a small PG when you're a small PG is a different experience than a 6'5" SG. You have to learn to lead the offense and it's much harder for you to get your shot off. For a 6'5" shooting guard the transition is a lot more simple. Space the floor, and knock it down when the ball finds you. And at 6'5" getting your shot off is obviously easier. The massive thing this team is missing is a wing with decent size that can knock down threes. A player like that would be a big factor with our strong PG play. That's the role Johnson was supposed to fill.

Sure I realize, like all freshman, Moss could come in an be a flop. Heck, we thought Peterson was a shooter and after 4 years he left here as a 30% shooter. All I'm saying is right now Moss appears to be the only guy in the plans for next year that could fill this role. Yes, we'll recruit at least two more players so that could change but as it stands right now Moss has a golden opportunity in front of him.

I will agree 100-percent with all you say ... but I would still feel a lot better with a Booman-Al Fisher-JWalker type scorer in the mix as well. And none of those guys were knockout 3-point shooters. Though all had their moments.

For sure. We need a guy that can create for himself when the offense is stagnant too. When it comes to offense, we have a lot of needs. Haha.

It's just so frustrating and difficult to watch when a team has so much trouble making baskets. I mean, that is the whole frickin' point of basketball, putting the ball in the basket.
