Can't wit to see it for myself on Thur! It's been a bit since i've hear that place rocking!
The way seats are constructed/aligned now and student "seating", I'm not sure it will ever reach the raucous roars of the past, but this teams deserves Trask to be packed to capacity and making as much noise as possible all game.
Yeah, the new normal loud is what i meant. With the new layout we will never see Trask of the early 2000s, sadly.
Not sure what student seating was in the 2000's, but in the 80's it was bleachers on both sides. It was insanely loud, especially when we played Navy when they had David Robinson.
When I first became associated with the program it was in 2000, and it was always bleachers all the way down stairs. Both sides, and both end zones. Although one end zone was usually taken up by the band and cheerleaders. I believe it was like that for the most part until the reconfiguration. I had season tickets from 2000-2008 when i moved and it was like that for that entire timeframe. I remember the old noise meter hitting and staying between 113 and 118 when Blizz broke the scoring record. Those were the days

When originally constructed Trask had an additional row of beaches seats in all lower sections. That top row was removed because students stood on their seats during the games. That meant that folks in the upper level's first three or four rows could not see the game - so the top rows of the bleachers were removed. That action along with changes that brought seating to its current configuration reduced capacity from 6000+ to the current capacity.

RE: vs. Northeastern - GAME 16 - CAA GAME 7
The benches used to be behind the season ticket holder side. Moving the benches behind the student section caused both teams to take up a sizable section of the student section behind the benches.
Moving the band upstairs thinned out the under the basket seating on the far end. Now it's just cheer and dance which doesn't really pack it in like it used to.
Definitely areas of possible improvement exist, but as long as the students turn out and make noise it still provides a significant home court advantage

And Amber Bryant was as raucous as any of them.

How true. When the Seahawk (wasn't named Sammy at the time) hatched out of a giant egg at half court - Dancin' Dave - the fan that dressed up as little Bo Peep when the vcu rams came to town, a dog catcher for jmu, a lion/tiger tamer for towson & so on - the Hecklers with their game shirts and one of them in a gorilla suit every game - the aforementioned Amber Bryant - the "Turnaround Lady" and lots of others. There is a history of storied fans/students in Trask. I guess remembrances of those folks could be the subject of a pretty lengthy thread.
Not to mention Trask was voted as "The Toughest Place To Play In The CAA" for many years.

The turnaround lady got so popular I remember she landed an endorsement gig. Used to hear her promoting a local business on the radio

Is there still an annual vote on the toughest place to play every year?

Wasn't that a part of the old CAAZONE? I know we use to have a survey every year where we voted on different things associated with basketball. For example, the best dance team, best coach, etc. I remember Mike Eades being voted the worst referee in the CAA three years in a row. He was then promoted to the ACC games.

By the way, I really like those black and teal road uniforms. Wouldn't break my heart to see them in Trask!

I used to love the fans choice awards. I remember when i used to sit behind the cheerleaders, Eades blew a call, i was riding him like Seabiscuit during the time out, he looked at me and said " I blew that one didn't I" LOL

RE: vs. Northeastern - GAME 16 - CAA GAME 7
Favorite memory of Trask being the toughest place to play was when Goldsberry held Jose Juan Berea (Northeastern) to like 8 pts . Loudest sporting event I’ve ever attended. JJB was so angry that I believe he threw his armband at the Amber Bryant area and it was thrown back on the court. Pretty sure also later that season in the CAA tourney in Richmond JJB threw his shoe into the crowd.
