Man, it doesn't seem like that long ago riding the NAS bus to Hattiesburg to watch really hard fought games against pretty good USM basketball teams. That rivalry, be it football or basketball, really lost it's luster. I think that losing Memphis as a conference mate and the downfall of USM sports probably did as much as anything in the loss of interest in UAB sports locally. Or maybe I'm just getting too nostalgic.

There definitely seems to have been some intensity lost in the USM rivalry since that round of realignment. Where we’ve lost that rivalry though, I’d say we picked up a couple: La Tech (though that one is expiring soon), UTSA, particularly in football, and UNT. Of course, once we all move to the AAC, we’ll likely be in the opposite division of them. But at least we’ll get Memphis back, in theory at least.
