Let Penny do his thing and be judged on his actions moving forward. Isn't that what any of us would want if we were in his shoes? It doesn't mean we like the state of the program. Some of you need to grow up and act like adults.

This is a nuanced post, because I DO think Penny can coach, I just don't think he WILL.
Last year's run to the NIT proved the guy can coach. If we hadn't been missing DW those first 7 games, I think we might have been an at-large invite to the NCAA.
But he is too damned stubborn for his own good, he plays favorites, and he won't take the hard action when it's needed. This team has serious problems behind the scenes, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out, and yet they are allowed to fester. Nothing rips a team apart more than favoritism.
That was all before the injuries. We have seen what this team can do when focused and healthy. That's Penny Hardaway being a damned good coach. But mostly we don't see that, which is Penny being a bad coach. Both are to his credit or fault.
But the OP of this inane thread likes taking potshots at someone who is a legend, and has done more to help this school than the OP could ever dream of doing.

If you have your full allotment of tanks, mortars, machine guns, etc. then you can go to battle on an even basis. Lacking all of this and expecting a different outcome is crazy and absurd. I agree with coach Hardaway and can empathize with him. Just wait until he has his full team at full strength and see what he does before attacking him. I predict a good outcome for our Tigers and our coach. Go Tigers Go !!!!!

He is facing the Pastner Problem from what I see.
Pastner spent his entire life dreaming of becoming a HC and spent a lot of time and effort coming up with his style of coaching long before he ever became a coach. He had it all figured out, all he needed was the opportunity to show how great and fail proof his system was.
When it wasnt working, he just kept doubling down on it and refused to make any changes or adjustments. It was always something else that caused his system not to work, not the system itself.
Penny seems to have the exact same problem. His system is guaranteed to work and it is fail proof. If there are problems, it isnt his system, it is the players, the media, the virus, etc. etc. etc.
No, it is your system and if you arent willing to make changes and adapt your system then it is doomed.

Didn’t know that about Keith - that’s pretty lame and surprising, as well.
Actually, I heard he was looking for parts for this Plymouth Gold Duster.

While only time will tell whether or not Penny ultimately develops into an excellent head coach, there's no doubt he's a good man worthy of respect.
Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't lived long enough yet.
ITA. I do feel he needs more Larry Brown's insight and maybe he should let him take over a game or two. But I feel he is humble and he wants the best for the city, team, and his guys. I don't agree with his approach on making Duren and Bates as the stars in the beginning but we all makes mistakes. I would have laid out some F bombs too if a reporter asked me some dumb questions.
Especially since the ‘reporters’ fan the flames purposely and use him with no shame.
Penny is sincere
Reporters are insincere.
He told them too much truth in the beginning and they ran with that. I wondered if that would work , but truth is lost on that breed.
Now he tells them to F off and they like that too—-correction they love it.
When Penny lightens up—lightens up to the point where he doesn’t care what slime balls they throw him—welp…he will use the hard cold fact that reporters are only there to run with whatever he gives them…plus those media guys are sick strung out puppies.

He should have said ...
After careful consideration and deep reflection I've come to the conclusion ...
lol , if he only spoke for himself, it would be simpler. He cares too much about the players and the city/ the college and his mentor.
Reporters are a sad lot; their ‘higher’ goals (if they ever had any) are history. Penny has worthy goals. People with goals to improve others make the mistake of thinking that others can see this and will support any person with those kinds of relatively unselfish goals.
This was the ‘almost’ inevitable next step —anger that they would not only fail to support but would throw their media power into making it more difficult—all for their own gain.
Fans are so easily manipulated , loss triggers them— makes them even more open to control.

It was a fair question. This media is tame compared to ones in big markets. Get a grip.
