that was obvious in the first 5 minutes. Weight of the world on these kids. Looks like they believe the 'overrated' chants.

We looked a lot more like a team at this point last year. This team has pretty much checked out

Penny has lost the upperclassmen and then threw them under the bus.

It is a lot more cool to look calm and collected while getting your ass kicked then to actually show you give a damn while winning.

After watching the smu game, IKE's afraid the team has said F it, that is ashame and if so one must ask why.
IKE's afraid there may be to much aau recruiting and aau lacks the teaching of fundamentals.
Exciting Ball and lots of highlight reels but also plenty of turnovers. A lot of TREYS but, some how we can never
Land a Trey shooter

RE: I'm sorry.. this team doesn't appear to give a damn...
Long, venting
I’m a triple alumnus and a proud Memphian
My brother, mom, daughter and more attended and have or will graduate from the university
Win or lose I enjoy our sports and this season has been particularly painful. Last night live it appeared three kids really gave a damn. Harris, Lomax and Timberlake. Duren had a good game
That is more painful than the injuries or losses or coming up a game short of the tourney etc.
Obviously there is a macro problem. When Pastner had several four and five star recruits he failed to make the sweet 16 and was mocked and ridiculed and run out of town when support quit. How charming does being upset over being NCAA locks but falling short of the Sweet 16 seem now? Pastner’s personality and appearance were assailed, because he was cornball, but tried his ass off falling short of excellence
Tubby was a mistake
So Penny came in with a different approach. And it has fallen well short of even Pastner results, in spite of high level recruits. And he has been bashed personally (not a ton but some and none of that is acceptable), and he isn’t handling it well, as his reactionary F bombs last night deserve a university censure
Being NIT locks is not what we are here for (and at the moment we are short of the NIT). And while the injuries have been devastating there were issues well before that. I still go back to Penny’s inability to prepare them properly for Iowa State and then allowing that loss to linger for three more games. Then when the kids do play focused they beat the crap out of solid teams in Alabama, Wichita State and Cincy ( no one claiming those are great teams).
High level D1 basketball is indeed hard. While you can win games regardless winning big requires a level of attention to detail that inexplicably we are not getting. How do we get that the rest of THIS season?
Don’t play based on your record. Just play. Records don’t matter once ball is tipped. Kids played last night like a team that expected to be 13-3 but was 9-7. Inexcusable
If your are really injured you can’t play. Short of that play.
Recognize how good and big Duren is. Practice the ever loving **** out of him so he makes a few more layups a game. You CANNOT run the same 1-3-1 short of players. It is great for a change of pace speeding things up but requires so much energy it is risky when short. And when not creating love ball turnovers it gives up open threes. Nolley and Hardaway also back, do it. But not with 3 or more players out
They will be out for blood in Tulsa. A wounded Memphis coming to town. Go 1-0. Eleven games left.
And everyone give a damn.
