Not sure what to make of this...
Is this a problem for JMU? Obviously this isn't directly involving us, but if ODU, Marshall, and USM were stuck in CUSA for another year, what kind of impact would that have on us?
I think those three schools want out bad and will probably just deal with the consequences of leaving early. Perhaps they were aware that CUSA would try something like this. Seems like a pretty good reason why those schools are leaving in the first place. It screams desperation to me.
CUSA is certainly trying to challenge CAA for worst conference.
No doubt both conferences are getting worse, but CUSA is getting MUCH worse.... and it's completely their fault.

Even is CUSA somehow forces them to stay the Belt will not leave JMU out. If JMU wants in next year we will go with 11 football teams next year

So many questions. This statement from CUSA is almost 3 months late.

at least they can compete for post-season opportunities!

I guess the implication is that early departure means no postseason CUSA tourneys?

Not if their post assuring departing members are eligible for conference championships/tournaments is truthful.

From purely an ethical standpoint, CUSA stating they expect everyone to honor their contracts is an appropriate stance for the conference to take. Nothing vindictive or sinister there.

RE: C-USA…
It seems that CUSA has telegraphed what we already know and are attempting to scare the three schools from leaving early. If that tweet is anything, it tells me that all 4 schools will be part of SBC in July.

RE: C-USA…
CUSA is very desperate. Think about what they are losing, and what they are gaining. No surprise they want to get as much out of those schools as they can.
Plus, I have no idea what the schedule is of teams leaving next year, but it's bound to be a mess! Plus, Soft Houston AND JSU won't be ready to join next year, so CUSA is going to be in some trouble if Marshall, ODU and Southern Miss leave and their adds aren't ready.

RE: C-USA…
SHSU and maybe JSU are still probably trying to figure out logistics like how to have enough seats in the stadium to meet the minimum FBS requirements. JMU was program and facility wise ahead of them in 2004 compared to where they are now. They need that extra transition year.

Who knows what the future looks like for CUSA, but for the next few years they are certainly in a much weaker position, and likely the bottom G5 conference for a while.

Would be a little bit surprised if the CUSA contracts have anything that are going to be show stoppers at this point, thats part of what the 3 CUSA schools were figuring out before making this move. This feels like an empty threat from Judy, and its a really bad look of desperation.

How can CUSA enforce bylaws when 75% of the conference pulled future membership at one time?

F CUSA. An empty threat. Stick a fork in that association, it’s time is done as a legit organization.

Not very. Essentially, they are using this as a tool to get more money from the departing schools.

They can't actually force them to stay, only real legal ground they have would be to sue if the teams did leave early.

About what I thought. And they'll probably lose if they do, not to mention engendering a whole lot of ill will. Stick a fork in C-USA, they're done.

File this beside Judy and CUSA reaching out to discuss a merger of conferences right before 9 members leave.

So reactive and lazy. Feel bad for WKU honestly.

Didn't they already propose this? After the Sun Belt proposed a reshuffle nearly a decade ago and CUSA told them to pound sand because they were higher on the totem pole on the other end?

Word is CUSA schools are still wrapping up the exit fees, may delay things a little bit.
