It is indeed past time for a change. I wish him much success this season and hope he enjoys his retirement.

I wish him well. I’ve heard he’s one of the good guys. Tigers wise, I guess he did what was expected of him. If this is a sign that Memphis is ready to get serious about baseball, I wonder where the money is coming from. They weren’t paying Shoenrock very much at all.

I remember when baseball was a pretty big deal around Memphis. Of course that was decades ago.

You’re probably remembering those Bill Speros American Legion teams. World Series champs. They had a ton of talent. Ross Grimsley comes to mind.

A young, energetic and rising coach will do wonders for the program.
I really don't think they are that far off from competing at the top of the conference.

That would certainly help, but they’re in a tough spot recruiting wise. Surrounded by SEC teams with their mega crowds and mega stadiums, I’d think convincing local talent to stay home is a helluva challenge.

My father played for Bill Speros. He still speaks of the large crowds that came to the fairgrounds to watch them play… and still ******* about the city naming the stadium after Tim McCarver & not Tony Gagliano. In his mind, it’s poetic justice only Gagliano still stands. It’s sad the kids today in our area do not have those same legion memories & community interest.

That being said, on the topic at hand, it was well past time for Schoerock to go…. last year’s team might have been the worst ever fielded at Memphis. Team era was over 7.0 & the team batting average was .226. Turrible.
