I remember when baseball was a pretty big deal around Memphis. Of course that was decades ago.

You’re probably remembering those Bill Speros American Legion teams. World Series champs. They had a ton of talent. Ross Grimsley comes to mind.

My father played for Bill Speros. He still speaks of the large crowds that came to the fairgrounds to watch them play… and still ******* about the city naming the stadium after Tim McCarver & not Tony Gagliano. In his mind, it’s poetic justice only Gagliano still stands. It’s sad the kids today in our area do not have those same legion memories & community interest.

That being said, on the topic at hand, it was well past time for Schoerock to go…. last year’s team might have been the worst ever fielded at Memphis. Team era was over 7.0 & the team batting average was .226. Turrible.

I think the loss of the Left Field Heckler reunion affected the team.

They need to look at Joe Caruso….

He’d be an “out of the box” hire but the guy has the best connections to the most talent of any person in our area.

Met him numerous times. Nice guy. And he’s a part of the World Champion Atlanta Braves franchise history. So that’s a plus.

No doubt. Those hecklers were the friendly sort and kept the team loose.

Is he coaching somewhere? Does he have any connections to local HS coaches or regional competitive programs. Whoever is brought in as coach has got to be able to recruit talent.

i got a call this week from the ticket office asking if i wanted to buy baseball season tickets.

dude said they had me as a previous purchaser

i asked him if he ever heard of the drunken hecklers?

he laughed and said he just started but had heard a story about some fans renting the left field deck and getting drunk and harassing the players.

Now $100 with 20 tickets, he specifically mentioned that drinking was encouraged. (i think this is a change in their stance from previous years of don't ask don't tell).

I think it should be made clear that those fools were only “harassing” opposing players and it was all in good fun. Mostly. “Hey, Jonny” from Connecticut might dispute that but whatever. He seemed to take it in stride but that was before they found his Facebook account.

I just remembered this. He may have said that because at one point they were set to start selling beer. No entry last year so who knows.
