RE: JMU at Elon hoops
Pretty sure this would set a new precedent as I could find nothing as far as suspensions in CAA for just getting 2 techs. For petes sake Tony Skinn was only suspended once game for punching Loren Stokes in the balls.

Here is the rule:

Disciplinary Authority. The Commissioner shall be empowered to take disciplinary action against Association
personnel when derogatory comments, acts of misconduct, failure to meet Association obligations, or violations of
Association and/or NCAA rules or policies occur. Misconduct is any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct,
fighting, unprofessional behavior or breach of law occurring incident to, en route to, from or at the locale of the
competition or practice that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics. Fighting may be interpreted to include
“striking a defenseless player in the head, neck, or face area.” Any player or coach ejected from a contest for
unsportsmanlike conduct/behavior will automatically have the conduct/behavior reviewed by the Commissioner.
The Commissioner may assess the following penalties, including, but not limited to, against a coach, studentathlete, officials, or other institutional staff member: [Revised: March 4, 1994, July 17, 1995, January 12, 1997,
June 7, 2006]
A. Private Reprimand.
B. Probationary status or suspension to coach, participant, or officiate in one or more contests.
C. Assessment of financial penalties against the institution or institutional personnel.
D. In all instances, the Commissioner shall direct the penalty through the Director of Athletics at each
institution (with a copy to the President/Chancellors) who shall be responsible for imposing the action. A
report on the Commissioner’s action shall be forwarded to the Colonial Athletic Association Executive
Committee. An institution or individual imposed with such a penalty shall be provided due process to
2016-17 CAA HANDBOOK

appeal any action to the Colonial Athletic Association Executive Committee who may affirm, modify or
reject the Commissioner’s penalty.
E. If an institution imposes a penalty for an action described above that is under the jurisdiction of the
Association prior to review by the Commissioner, the Commissioner retains the authority to review the
case. In this instance, the Commissioner may conclude that the corrective or punitive action taken by the
institution is representative and consistent with Association policies and principles and may exercise
discretion to take no further action. If the institution action appears to be insufficient, the Commissioner
may impose additional actions described above.
F. The Conference Ejection Rule is intended to apply to the regular season and does not automatically apply
to post-season or carry-over to the next season. (Note: This principle does not apply to suspensions
mandated by the playing rules of the sport).
G. Meeting Obligations. The Commissioner is also empowered to take disciplinary action against any coach
who misses a league meeting or media obligation without prior approval from the CAA. The penalty for
the first offense shall be a written reprimand from the Commissioner with a copy to the Director of
Athletics.

"B. Probationary status or suspension to coach, participant, or officiate in one or more contests."

Double secret probation?

Get Coach Wainwright on the phone. Byington needs a refresher on team defense.

If we dont bring defense or have a great offensive night, we will struggle

I disagree. In the past, I’ve had purple colored glasses. This year, I believe we actually do have the talent . Not far superior, but as good as any in the CAA. And although we may not come back and win this one, I expect us to make a charge and not surprised if we do.

This JMU team has plenty of talent, plus good coaching. It’s not a surprise that it’s a winning team, and the record is not “inflated”…whatever that is supposed to mean.

so it was just a gut feel, that we were winning more than our fair share of close games. then I heard VT had the worst Kenpom luck factor. So I look up where JMU is on this "luck factor", we are the 10th luckiest team in the country as measured by Kenpom. What is the Kenpom luck factor?

"measure of the deviation between a team’s actual winning percentage and what one would expect from its game-by-game efficiencies"

maybe better coaching is allowing us to pull out close wins. maybe our players have the mental strength to gut out nail biters. it is certainly better than what we saw from Lou and crew.
