I suspected that the Boise series would end. Doesn’t make much sense to keep it from the BYU perspective but it worked well when they were independent.

I imagine BYU’s future schedules are going to look like this:

Utah (H&H)
Utah St (H&H)
FCS buy game (likely Weber St, Utah Tech, & S Utah on rotation)

Add a G5 buy game to the list if the Big 12 does 8 conference games (which I think they should).

BYU has not played Utah consistently. My guess would be alternating years between Utah and Utah St and have 2 open slots or Utah annually and regularly scheduling Utah St but not annually.

That’s been on Utah, not BYU. Utah was able to get some series (Michigan) against some big P5s and chose to dump the Coogs to make room. If it were up to BYU, that game stays in place.

If the Big 12 remains a P5 conference, wouldn't Utah be more likely to retain them as a desirable OOC opponent?

I wonder if BYU will seek to get out of the game in Raleigh in November of 2024? Our return game is not until August of 2030. As it is now BYU has a game in Greenville in late October of 24, and comes back in three weeks to Raleigh.

Between the changes in elevation and climate I just don't know about flying from Provo to NC twice in three weeks.

Seems like one they would at least want to move to a later year.

One of those North Carolina games will get pushed out 3 or 4 years.

For NCSU, BYU is only OOC P5 game. For ECU, BYU is the only P5 team on their schedule. One or both schools will not be happy about replacing. In addition, BYU is at Utah as well in 2024. I could see both games rescheduled and/or cancelled.

Has B12 stated if they are staying with 9 conference games yet?

Haven’t heard what the Big XII is doing. Of course, we don’t know for certain when TX and OK leave.

I based the overages in my OP based on an eight game conference schedule.

Dennis Dodd had an article earlier in the year that suggested they will go with a 9-game football schedule and 18-game basketball schedule.

Most likely they have an internal deadline of when institutions need to know whether they are dropping to 8. My guess is they’ll keep doing “1 more year” of 9 games until they re-negotiate their TV contract.

Once the exit dates are set AND the Pac-12 has/nt made the decision to go to 8, the Big 12 (and their prospective TV partners) should have all the info they need.

USC has replaced BYU with San Jose State for 2023, getting BYU down to four OOC games for that year. So if the Big XII goes with an eight game schedule, they are good to go for 2023.

Didn’t think about that. The Big XII members have only scheduled three OOC games for the next few years so they’d need to find games in a hurry if they go with eight. I’m sure Liberty and NMSU would be willing to give them a number to call.

Sounds like the 2023 Liberty-South Carolina game is likely going to be rescheduled/cancelled. SC has contracted with Jacksonville State for a 2023 game instead, Battle of the Gamecocks coming next year!

BYU-Hawaii has bit the dust...

Quote:The BYU Cougars and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors appear to have canceled their home-and-home football series that was scheduled for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

BYU and Hawaii were scheduled to begin their home-and-home series on Sept. 14, 2024 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah with the second and final game slated for Sept. 6, 2025 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both games were previously listed on Hawaii’s official athletics website, but have since been removed.

Thanks for that. A little surprised they dumped Hawaii. BYU has a branch there and the state has a significant Mormon presence.

I have altered BYU’s count to reflect a potential nine game conference schedule.

Too late. BYU-Hawaii dropped athletics in 2017.

BYU cancels a four game series with Utah State 2023-26.

https://fbschedules.com/byu-utah-state-c...ough-2026/

This gets them down to eight games they need to purge. But they only have two OOC listed for 2025 and 2027, so they could shift two games there.

This also completes their 2023 schedule with three OOC games listed.
