RE: CAA Expansion
If those three teams join, Hofstra could be travel partners with Stony Brook, and you could be travel partners with Monmouth, meaning the northernmost two would not be partners. Hampton is near W&M, but in order for them to be travel partners Towson would have to be partners with Elon. If there are two divisions of six, and teams play three home and three away games against the other division, teams could make a two game trip and a one game trip to the other division. Alternatively, the CAA could make three pods of four like they do for Football (but won't be able to do if those teams join to make more than twelve Football teams). Teams could play two games against their pod (2x3 = 6, teams don't play themselves), two games against one other pod (2x4 = 8), and one game against one other pod (1x4 = 4), to keep 18 games. Let's call the pods North (N), Central ©, and South (S), and make teams N1, N2, N3, N4, C1, C2, C3, C4, S1, S2, S3, and S4. Here's the schedule for an N team against the other pods in a four season rotation:

1. Two games vs. each C, host S1 and S2, go to S3 and S4
2. Two games vs. each C, host S3 and S4, go to S1 and S2
3. Two games vs. each S, host C1 and C2, go to C3 and C4
4, Two games vs. each S, host C3 and C4, go to C1 and C2

When the CAA had 12 teams, they made a six season rotation.

If the plan is to make the CAA Tournament have seeds within divisions, they will choose two divisions over three pods. If the plan is to seed teams from 1 to 12, three pods is fine. I prefer the latter.

RE: CAA Expansion
Monmouth to join the CAA in all sports. Hampton and Stony Brook reportedly to follow MU.

Here's how a division breakdown would look if Monmouth, Stony Brook and Hampton do indeed come to the CAA.

HOOPS:
North (6): Northeastern, Hofstra, Stony Brook, Monmouth, Drexel, Delaware
South (6): Towson, W&M, Hampton, UNCW, Elon, Charleston

FOOTBALL:
North (6-7): Maine, NH, Albany, URI, Stony Brook, Monmouth, Villanova?
South (6-7): Villanova?, Delaware, Towson, Richmond, W&M, Hampton, Elon

Not ideal but far better than the current far flung conference. Much better for travel and creating rivalries. Will also be much easier to replace any schools that depart in the future. One of the smartest moves by the CAA in decades even if i'm not thrilled about adding only schools from Virginia north.

Let’s hope they can add a UNC Greensboro and maybe another southern team to even this thing out.

I know the masses on your board aren’t happy about all of this, but there’s really no alternative at the moment. Let the dust settle and then let’s see what happens down the road.

RE: CAA Expansion
Per Jeff Goodman via Twitter…

Stony Brook is a done deal to the CAA, source told @Stadium. CAA also set to add Hampton and Monmouth, and could still target anywhere from 2-4 more teams at some point. Final approval on Stony Brook, Hampton and Monmouth expected early next week.

As a non football school basketball and baseball are really all we care about. From the heyday of VCU, George Mason and ODU to Hampton, Stony Brook and Monmouth, can you blame us? Not only did the conference shift north in an extreme manner, basketball has been second fiddle to football and we've been a one bid conference for a decade.

This move should have been made when we were a top midmajor conference in basketball to secure the gains, but the CAA leaders have always been reactive, even now. But at least it's a move in the right direction and will hopefully sway schools like UNCG to come on board. Time will tell if the CAA sways UNCG and the like, or if the SoCon or ASUN sways UNCW and CofC.
