They are going to need a #14

Hopefully this opens the door for Campbell

As others in this thread have stated I think the best move for the CAA is to wait until the Big South refills.
If they can lure two MEAC schools like NCCU and Norfolk St then the CAA can approach Howard again.

Why would the CAA wait?

Hampton is going to join when asked. CAA has been their goal for 20 years. Monmouth as well. Stony Brook was going to join last go round but was blocked by Hofstra. The northern schools seems to want Farfield as well. That irks me because Towson should be in the north and a 3rd northern school bumps Towaon to the south.

Rightly or wrongly the CAA is picky and seems to be leaning towards private schools or prestigious public schools like AAU Stony Brook.

Since Howard and the SoCon schools appear to have declined, the next best option for #14 is Campbell, an up and coming private football school that should aquiese both the north and the south contingents

If it were up to me the CAA would add Winthrop and Campbell as #13 and #14 and Towson would be in the north

The CAA would wait only because they have the luxury to do so. It seems that they have identified Howard as a target and I think that the landscape may change enough for the MEAC over the next few weeks/months that Howard may change their position.

Maybe that’s not the case and all eight MEAC members are in agreement to stay together. At that point the CAA can look at Campbell or other options. They just don’t have to rush a decision this time.

I wasn’t trying to imply that Campbell wasn’t a great option. They may be better than Howard for I know. But it seems that the CAA has identified others ahead of them.

The CAA has to take Hampton and Monmouth to get the Big South to move. If the Big South gets NC Central and Norfolk State to replace a departing Hampton and Monmouth, then yes Howard may become available. But until the CAA acts, the Big South appears to be stable

I think the MEAC stays in place. There are many backfill options for the Big South between OVC schools now looking for a new home and the ASun.

I doubt it. They have a good thing going in the SoCon, which is a stronger basketball conference than the CAA right now. Unless the SoCon gives them an ultimatum to add football or leave, which would be very stupid of them to do, I don't see UNCG going anywhere.

We recorded a podcast on the subject last night, for anyone who wants to get into the weeds with what some of us from the northern end of the CAA are seeing and thinking:

My takeaway from this is Winthrop is off the table, according to what one of the guys heard.
