That first half was about as dead even as you could get from the score on down.

Glover's vertical on his J is almost Pigram-like. He's WAY stronger than he was when ETSU was (half-heartedly) recruiting him, and when he was in Florida. Yet King is doing a fantastic job stopping his penetrations.

I can see how Sammie won the OOC games they did. They have some nice pieces.

I noticed that too. He is not even mentioned by Jay or anyone else.

He and Farah were in COVID protocols, maybe haven't cleared that yet or he isn't back in game shape after missing.

Among other things they don't seem to know what walking is.

Stressful win on the road!

Credit:

King hitting 2 FT’s under a minute
Patterson stealing the ball/stopping Samford’s possession
LA Brewer committing a very smart foul with 6 seconds
Sloan under immense pressure bouncing in a HIGH FT

Too close for comfort, but it’s tough to win on the road. On to the next one!

In a high paced game full of 3 point shots (ETSU hit 45% from outside!), our inside game also showed up. Seymour with 10 points and Weber with 8 points, the two combined were 8/9 field goals and only 1 turnover while also playing reasonably well defensively.

King only got 19 I called a big game with 20+ but he had a career-high 5 3pters so that counts.
Let's hope that doesn't mean he takes the next game off

Close game, had a chance to stretch it out but at least they held on and won it.

RE: Official Game Thread: @ Samford
PHEWWWW. Bucs tried *hard* to lose it - esp. Sloan with his poor ball-handling and decisions the last few minutes - but we did *just* enough to hold on. Samford wanted it, until they didn't.

Yes, the refs were truly terrible, but that charge call on Sloan was absolutely correct. And that was right after he glowered at the Samford player that he dunked on; so he 'deserved' it, I guess.

19 assists may be the most we've had in quite a while; not sure. Agree Seymour and Weber both played very well.
Both teams getting FIVE guys in double figures is quite unusual. Bucs over 1.3 pts./possession; Bulldogs over 1.2 -- which one would expect with hot shooting.

No, the charge wasn’t even close to correct. It was ridiculous. Refs are charge happy. Talk to Jay Bilas about that - he preaches that all the time, and he’s right.

We did do everything to try and lose it but won it. Maybe they can use this to help them learn how to finish.

Assuming we're talking about the same play - and I suspect we are - did you see the replay from the baseline camera? It *was* obvious, mostly because Sloan shoved him with his arm - not because it was a close, typical charge/block call. Certainly don't need or want to "talk to Jay Bilas" (as if). Historically, as you know.......defenders have been at a disadvantage on that, until they reconfigured training (not sure if they also tweaked the rules or not) on that about, oh, 7-8-10(?) years ago. I think its pretty fair now, but still by far the hardest call to make.

We may be talking about a different play. The one I was thinking of was up top, not down low. I was just figuratively talking about Bilas, obviously. Regardless refs are charge happy, and they call a ton. I don’t know about the one you’re talking about. Regardless, don’t rehash it, I don’t really give a crap and am not going to tirelessly post about it. Sloan played an overall good game but made mistakes that almost cost us. Dye absolutely killed us. How many will Haase from Mercer score? 40? We will have no answer for him. But if we can shut down everyone else surely we can get that one too, right? At home? Who knows.

Yeah, Bucs were trying to lose the game. Samford was just standing around waiting to win.

Good game Bucs. Never backed down even when Samford made runs with the home crowd going nuts.

All the players are showing signs of improvement. Seymore is making great strides as he learns his new postion.

Playing 5 games in less than 2 weeks with a depleted roster agsinst 4 of the top teams is a testament to the work the players and coaches have put in.

Enjoy your dinner and the ride home Bucs, you certainly earned.

Go Bucs

I have the game taped and I really enjoyed watching the game. I hope this year's team is a harbinger of things to come and we are only a year or two away from the glory years. I was able to watch the game on a Spartanburg station.
