The ACC has the GOR and a lower yearly payout than the Big Ten and SEC. This is fine for a year or two but this will compound and the ACC members will be at a disadvantage. The ACC schools may be considering how to make their members more equitable.

How to rectify the situation-

What if the ACC folds itself into the Big Ten? This may be for football only or for all sports.

The Big Ten Network expands. The ACC schools get the revenue needed to compete with the SEC and Big Ten schools.

I think it’s more likely the ACC folds into the SEC because of the ESPN ties and is maintained in an “ACC Division”. The ACC brand is highly valuable to ESPN and Carolina and Duke are what makes that brand valuable. It’s not the ACC anymore if they’re replaced with Cincinnati and Central Florida.

What I’d rather see at this point is the ACC add a Gulf Coast presence with Houston and Baylor, as I’ve mentioned on the ACC boards. This gets us carried in Texas and is following the lead of the SEC. It opens up the media contract and allows us to restructure divisions to make a more compelling TV package.

BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Louisville
Virginia, VaTech, UNC, Duke
Wake, State, Clemson, GaTech
FSU, Miami, Houston, Baylor

That breaks up quite nicely and you get a large public school in a huge market and a private school that is crushing it in the major sports right now. Houston’s not too shabby either reaching the Final 4 and handing Auburn an L in the Birmingham Bowl.

Tough to see the SEC going past 18 teams. With 18, you could have a three division of six setup (5+2+2). With 20 teams, you can't have two divisions, although it could be 4 pods of 5 with a 4+1+1+1, but that's ugly. I think 18 is the number for the B1G and SEC:

SEC:
East: FSU, Clemson, Fla, USC, UGa, UK
Central: Ole Miss, Bama, Vandy, MSU, Auburn, Tenn
West: OU, Mizzou, Ark, UT, LSU, A&M

B1G:
East: RU, Maryland, GaTech, UNC, Duke, UVa
Central: OSU, UM, MSU, Indiana, Purdue, PSU
West: Iowa, UN, Wisc, Minn, NWU, Illinoi

ACC:

North: BC, Pitt, Cuse, UL, UC, WVU
South: Miami, NCSU, WF, Va Tech, USF, UCF

Pac 12: As is

Big 12(10): Add Memphis, play round robin.

If you look at this, interdivision rivalries can be protected with 2+2 cross games, and you could have 3 divisions for a 4-team conference playoff in both the B1G and SEC. The other conferences could hold a single CCG.

For the Final Four, I'd say SEC/B1G champs get autobid, vs top 2/8 remaining conference champs and/or ND (higher ranked).

I could see the sec jump to 24 with 8 ACC schools than ND and espn rebuild the ACC with some big 12 schools
