Jay Ducker RB MAC freshman of the year
Has transferred to Memphis. Huge pickup for the staff. Memphis, Florida, Florida State, and UCLA were his top 4.

looks like a great pick up. Might solve some running issues if the line strengthens up

I was reading some stuff on other boards about him and by all accounts he was really well thought of.

With this guy and Brandon Thomas in the backfield we have two really good RB's.

Don't forget Asa Martin - speed, strength & can catch the pass. Don't know why he doesn't get more opportunity. But all of our RBs need a better line play.

There was rumors during the season when Thomas either got hurt or was benched due to fumbles that he planned on transferring. Has anyone heard if that is the case?

Idk, but Ducker had ZERO fumbles on 218 carries as a freshman.

RE: Jay Ducker RB MAC freshman of the year
Some interesting quotes from him:
2020 Bellevue West grad Jay Ducker has entered the transfer portal. The 2019 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year broke the state’s 11-man record for touchdowns in a career (110) including 94 rushing touchdowns.
Ducker, the MAC Freshman of the Year, MAC Championship Offensive Player of the Game rushed for 1,184 yards during his freshman season at Northern Illinois.
“For me trust is a big thing. Me and my coaches didn’t have trust,” Ducker said of his decision to leave NIU. “I feel like they weren’t being honest with me.”
In the Huskies first four games of the season he had 24 carries for 85 yards. It was the Huskies 34-26 win over Bowling Green in week five where he established himself as the lead back in the MAC Champions attack. In the next eight games Ducker ran for 1,099 yards on 194 carries and finished the season with three touchdowns.
Ducker is open to any and all possibilities at what he hopes is his next stop in his football career.
“I want to keep playing football for as long as possible,” he said. “I want to fit into an offense that fits me. I just want an opportunity.”

I watched some of his highlights and he reminds me of Curtis Steele. Smaller back with good instincts that hits the gap immediately. I think he will be a big addition to our offense. I wish we could get some of those big Mid Western linemen to come with him!

Is Ducker considered a speed or power back?

Yes, most of his yards in 8 games after playing sparingly in the first 7 games. In two of them he didn't have a single carry.

Balanced 4.4-4.5 40 times. NIU had a big time goal line full back that got most of the red zone touches and touch downs.
Ducker can get it done though he is the Nebraska high school football leader in touchdowns. Can also catch very well out of the backfield

So he threw his former coaches under the bus

Neither, He is very elusive though. Great vision and shakes first tackler. Only caught one pass in his college career out of the backfield.
