Please don't lump Doss in with anyone else on this board.

I'm Sorry, but he is the representative of our board. He speaks for us all.

More than a few things have been said, even by former players, about the Denbrock era...here is another:

That means there are three spots left, TE, ST, and CBs with two coaching spots remaining, which means the ST coordinator would need to either be a CBs coach or a TE coach...I think we know a guy who could do CB/ST...

Buh...Buh...BMan!

With these additions/promotions I'm feeling pretty damn good right now! Big Fick knows what he's doing.

Look, even rath Pitt agrees...

^^^ Brad Pitt gets got in that movie lol.

I wonder if having two guys who can effectively coach DL on staff is going to be a good thing or a bad thing. I'd imagine you could give Walt some coaching responsibilities and allow Scruggs to get out on the trail since that's something he is incredibly good at. To me, that's a great things to be able to do.

Program is in disarray…took 2 weeks to get an OC..how disorganized

If we know anything about CLF, he's going to check all available options to make sure that he makes the correct hire. I'm sure that he probably interviewed 1 or 2 other candidates before settling on GINO. What is the rush during this part of the off-season? It would be different if this happened before signing day, but their is like nothing going on at the moment.

How much vetting is needed for a guy that has been here on staff for years and played here for 4 years?

On everyone employed in my company departments (Finance, IT, HR) there was an analysis of each employee as to his/her ability to move up and to what role. We always knew if we had an internal replacement. I did not invent the idea, I stole it.

RE: Coaching Staff
This makes hiring Walter Stewart even better! We just screwed Lyle Jones!

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - Butch Jones is putting the finishing touches on his 2022 Arkansas State football coaching staff.

He’s bringing one of his former players into the fold. Football Scoop was first to report that Walter Stewart would be new Red Wolves defensive line coach.

Stewart spent the last three seasons as the Temple D-line coach. The Owls recorded 67 sacks in that 32 game span. He coached 2019 AAC Defensive Player of the Year and current New York Giant Quincy Roche. Stewart has also had stops at Northern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and Florida A&M. The Ohio native played for Butch Jones at Cincinnati from 2010 to 2012. Stewart was on Jones’ staff at Tennessee in 2013 and 2014.

I recommend a strongly worded email to Coach Fick, along with your friendly advice of course.

Please add in that correspondence that his 44-7 record over the past four seasons is unacceptable!

Is it possible that Coach Fickell actually evaluated and interviewed candidates...including Gino...for the position? And evaluation and interviews might take time?

And given that we just came off a CFP appearance...yeah...a couple of weeks is not unreasonable.

RE: Coaching Staff
Can we just recap what happened today?

1. Coach Guidugli, who has waited patiently, gets his job. A number of former players celebrate on social.
2. We bring back a Bearcat favorite in Walter Stewart (and pull the rug out under Lyle), who seems a perfect fit for Coach Tressel's aggressive play calling desire.
3. Coach Fick effectively fires (as far as I can remember) his first assistant and brings in a guy who has coached the G5 version (CMU) of Iowa in terms of offensive lines. He also happens to have experience as an OC (good for Gino) and knows one of our prime recruiting grounds in Michigan. Being Fick, he appears to do right by the demoted coach.
4. We bring back Kerry Coombs, who will apparently end his career in the city he loves, in a role he's well-suited for.
5. We get a PWO commit from a kid who would have been a solid scholarship commitment for us only a handful of years ago.
6. Per Justin Williams, Mike Brown - spurner of Va Tech - gains the title of Passing Game Coordinator.
7. Doss goes Karen on UC HR, asks to see the manager.

Did I miss anything?

Mark, I’m not sure if you remember or not, but when you were still a student at UC, I told you that you would turn into a wise person in time. You haven’t disappointed.

Does anyone have a comment on #3 (that is not paywall protected)? iirc, when Crook was hired, it was a big deal and celebrated. As a unit, they have lagged behind the productivity of our other units on both sides of the ball (armchair QB analysis fwiw). it felt like, outside of a handful of strong performers, it never quite matched the progress of the rest of the team. in many respects i chalked that up to the fact that it is harder to recruit/develop OLs in general. This demotion seems to speak to other factors.
