I couldn't find any information on it other than just the announcement and some generic information. Not that it matters.

More just curiosity, tbh. I'm pretty certain he graduated so I just being nosy as to what grad program he entered. He was majoring in psychology at NIU.

FYI -- According to the May 18 student-athlete grad list, mbb had two: Chinedu Kingsley Okanu and Chris Osten. No December 2021 grads.

Hankerson graduated also.

I'm pretty certain Trendan Hankerson and Zool Kueth graduated as well. I actually saw a picture of Hankerson in his cap and gown on instagram. He was with Okanu in the pic.

Zool Kueth ALSO transferring to Tennessee State.

The Tigers just added about 3 points per game.

Well then something is not right somewhere. I went off the lists published on the official website.

I posted what was on the official website. Send them an email if you want to debate.

Just a note: participation in an official graduation ceremony does not mean that's when a diploma is awarded. There may be some minor requirement(s) that have yet to be fulfilled, and will be soon. But they're not going to hold another ceremony, so they "cross the stage" with their class.

LOL. No need to take it personally. I have no intention of debating it. Just trying to point out that the website appears to have been wrong. Based on the tweet, I would strongly believe that they both have in fact graduated. I guess we aren’t supposed to point out what appears to be incorrect information.

And it isn’t as if the official website is always up-to-date. The rosters particularly are updated very intermittently

LOL to you too. Nothing personal about it. As I said "...then something is not right somewhere." Nothing about anyone here being wrong, only perhaps the source(s) of information. And reconsidering, an email to the website would probably result in ... ?

Perhaps a caution to anyone (including self) citing the official website.

Its possible Hankerson has some internship or something to complete this summer or whatever. I did this, I walked in May but didn't official complete my program until August or whenever my internship was completed.

Either way, he walked so the idea is that he either graduated or had something minor to complete that will be completed otherwise they wouldn't have allowed him to walk.

In other words...graduated.

Did they ever hire a new assistant coach? It’s been quite some to since the departure of Steve Christiansen.

It took them 5 months to announce the Assistant coaches for Coach Burno's staff. Hopefully with only one assistant being hired it be more expedient.

They posted the job listing only a week ago.

RE: NIU Hoops Recruits for 2022-23
NIU Hoops put up some pictures of "newcomers" or something like that on their IG account and I noticed right away, David Coit wasn't in any of the pictures.

They have promoted him in the past as a recruit and he even had a committment press conference where he was wearing NIU gear and everything. VC has never had him on the roster other than as an "offer" (but they aren't 100% reliable and miss things some times).

If he's some how dipped out, that would leave one or two more spots for Burno to fill.

At best, the MBB program seems terribly “unsettled “.

Burno is clearly fighting an uphill battle. Montgomery didn't leave the program in as bad of shape as it was when he took it over, but it wasn't too much better. It got better and then he let it fall apart again and then stacked the roster with JUCO transfers who were fringe D-I players. Monty brought in a total of 2 freshmen recruits his final 2 seasons as HC (none of them in his last year) and one of them (Cole) turned out to be a bust (granted, he was hurt a lot).

He's also trying to do this in a transfer happy market where it's really hard to keep players in the system even when times are good and probably with a limited recruiting budget.

It's a hard spot to be in, that is for sure.

RE: NIU Hoops Recruits for 2022-23
Agree with Big Red, but adding ... The transfer portal is something all coaches have to deal with, especially those not heading a P5 program. But I think there's more to it at NIU.

I wonder what impression Burno was given before/when he accepted the job. I re-watched both Summer Circuit videos and got the impression that Burno is frustrated already.

Purely my own speculation, but ...

Burno's first year was loaded with P5 payday road trips -- not hard when everybody wants to play a collapsed team with a new HC -- and it looks like the coming season is shaping to be similar. It's looking a lot like o-o-c Huskies football ... those P5 roadtrip paydays are critical to STF's bean-counting. Remember 2018 when STF added Florida State because NIU needed more money?

What if sparking local interest is one of your "challenges"? How can you build local attendance when you're never home? (Talking o-o-c here). How do you generate early-season excitement? (Before the "MAC season".)

Burno's answer to Baker's question about who would be the big o-o-c home game -- that every home game is important -- was an obvious sidestep. Nobody really knows or wants to say who NIU might host. Yeah, it's still early, but note the quick info availability about road games. And UNI is a two-fer ... two there for one here. Something you might try if it was a P5, but Northern Iowa?

I expect one homer will be Chicago State. Easy get and the Cougars are indies with a schedule to fill at as low-cost as possible. I have no high expectations for anything else.

RE: NIU Hoops Recruits for 2022-23
My concern has nothing to do with players or the transfer portal. It is the apparent coaching staff turnover. To lose two floor assistants and the Director of Operations one year after you hired them is not ideal. You either made serious hiring mistakes or there is another major problem. That just isn’t a good look.

And PVK75, I also detected a level of Burno frustration in the Summer Circuit video.
