RE: vs. Elon - CAA GAME 2
I did my best to create the thread using solo's template. Hope there aren't any errors, lol.

After a rousing win over Northeastern back on December 29th, Elon returned to the court on Sunday and lost a hard-fought road game @ Charleston, 65-61. 6-2 junior shooting guard Hunter McIntosh led the way with 22 points, including 5 threes, in a gaudy 38 minutes of action. He's the team's 2nd leading scorer on the season, at 12.1 ppg, but through 2 CAA games he's been the scoring engine for the Phoenix, averaging 21.0 ppg. So far, that's good for 2nd in the league in CAA-only games.

The strong play of late by McIntosh has pushed 6-0 sophomore point guard Darius Burford into a secondary scoring role despite being the team's leading scorer (12.2 ppg) during non-conference play. Averaging 3.1 apg, the team's top facilitator may be better off, as it's not always best for a 6-0 point guard to be your top scorer anyways. On defense, Burford has been a pest, averaging 1.8 steals per contest on the season and 2.5 spg in conference play, which puts him in a tie for 3rd in the category.

Burford and McIntosh have started every game for the Phoenix this season, providing stability in the backcourt. The only other player to start all 15 has been 6-8 sophomore big man Michael Graham. The Brooklyn, NY product is averaging 7.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg as the starting center for the team. He's been efficient inside, posting a solid .589 FG %, and has also blocked a team-leading 12 shots on the season.

The other 2 spots in the starting lineup have been a bit more inconsistent for 3rd-year head coach Mike Schrage. 5 different players have received 3 or more starts over the course of the season. And often it doesn't matter much who starts in the other 2 slots, as Elon has employed a fairly deep bench. Against Charleston, for instance, 6-5 junior wing Zac Ervin (9.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, .395 3-pt %) and 6-5 redshirt senior wing Jerald Gillens-Butler (6.0 ppg) started, but each received less than 20 minutes of playing time. 6-7 big senior big man Chuck Hannah (5.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg) played 26 minutes off the bench, handling 4 and 5 duties, while 3 other players received at least 15 minutes of action. 6-5 senior wing Torrence Watson (10.1 ppg) is 3rd on the team in scoring and minutes per contest, while 6-6 junior wing Hunter Woods (6.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, .380 3-pt %), meanwhile, is 4th on the team in minutes. So it's anybody's guess who will end up getting the lion's share of the minutes out of the 3 and 4 spots on the court for Elon on Wednesday night.

Elon is typically a good matchup for us with the scheme that Keatts and Siddle have utilized, as Elon essentially deploys a 4-guard lineup like we do. They tend to allow a lot of blocked shots (60 blocks allowed so far this season) while failing to protect the rim nearly as well (35), and this has been a fairly consistent trend for the Phoenix under Schrage. This plays nicely into our style, and what we have been doing well lately: Blocking shots and getting to the rim.

Elon also turns the ball over a lot (13.6 per game). Their turnover rate has remained consistent in CAA play as well (13.5 per game). So this will also be a good opportunity to apply pressure in whatever manner the coaching staff sees fit.

RE: vs. Elon - CAA GAME 2
Elon has had three players who have started all 14 of their games

Darius Burford 6'0" 166 lb So G 12.2 ppg, 3.9 reb, 43.9%FG, 33.3% 3pt(11-33), 30.7 min
Hunter McIntosh 6'2" 180lb Jr. G 12.1 ppg, 2.5 reb, 30.5%FG, 38.5% 3pt(40-104) 31.6 min
Michael Graham 6'8" 220 lb So F 7.9 ppg, 6.1 reb, 58.9%FG, 12 blocks, 19.3 min

Other notable players

Torrence Watson 6'5" 200 lb. Sr. G/F 10.1 ppg, 2.6 reb, 34.2%FG, 30.3% 3pt(20-66), 26.5 min
Zac Ervin 6'5" 201lb Jr G/F 9.5 ppg, 3.9 reb, 40.9%FG, 39.5% 3pt(32-81), 23.1 min
Hunter Woods 6'6" 197lb Jr. G/F 6.9 ppg, 4.9 reb, 41.1% FG, 38% 3pt(19-50), 25.1 min
Jerald Gillens 6'5" 227lb RS Sr G/F 6.0 ppg, 1.9 reb, 38.2%FG, 31.3% 3pt(5-16), 15.3 min
Chuck Hannah 6'7" 229 lb Sr. F/C 5.1 ppg, 3.6 reb, 54.2%FG, 54.5% 3pt(6-11), 21.7 min
Kris Wooten 6'2" 194 lb Sr. G 2.5 ppg, 1 reb, 36.7%FG, 36.7% 3pt(11-30), 13.4 min

Elon has a roster than looks similar to UNCW with size across the board. They average 69 ppg, just ahead of UNCW at #7 in the CAA and give up 75.3 ppg which is next to last in the CAA. They are #1 in the CAA in 3pt% at 36.6% and also have the most attempts in the CAA besides Hofstra. 46% of their FG attempts are from three.

They have more TO's than their opponents, fewer steals, and have been outrebounded. They shoot far fewer FT's but hit almost 75% of their attempts. They have almost half as many blocks as their opponents.

This game pits a team that played like UNCW was playing on offense...and losing... in Elon, against a UNCW team that has moved away from shooting over 40% of their shots from three and are attacking the rim. UNCW has a far better defense and rebounds far better than Elon. We should be able to attack the rim, draw fouls, and get out on the break off defensive rebounds. It will all depend on how we defend the three.

UNCW - 74
Not the Musk - 67

RE: vs. Elon - CAA GAME 2
82, I like our chances to get the W as well based on everything we both posted about the matchup. Elon has a ton of wing players but they aren't that great at shooting the 3. They turn the ball over too much and aren't great at protecting the rim. All of that plays into our hands.

Elon is still a chippy team though so I think 7 points is probably a bigger margin than it will likely be. I think we start out slow and even trail at halftime, with the game coming down to the final possession or 2, but we end up winning by about 3 points.

Well, we're both on record now, so we will see. 04-cheers I just don't see them going off on the three ball against us and that's what they will need to keep it close. I also like the emergence of Kelly, who can defend the paint on the drive and rebound, while we extend our defense to stop the three.

I'd take a nut kicking buzzer beater to avenge last year. I'm not spiteful at all

Reverting back to our crappy offense jacking three and jumpers. DRIVE! If they want to jack three's, sit them down.

RE: vs. Elon - CAA GAME 2
Six of our thirteen shots have been from three and we've hit ZERO. Where have I seen this before? Oh, that's right, when we were losing. Need to set more picks to help shake defenders at the top of the key and then roll to pull the defender off the double. If we don't start driving we're going to lose.
