Almost unwatchable. I reached for remote several times but hanging
in there. Refs determined to be the focus. No flow at all.
Like a Jr High game. Really bad basketball

Imagine how an EMU fan must feel. This is hard for us to watch and we're up 10.

True ,a win is a win but UGLY and yes. Better to win ugly than lose

The defense was not ugly at all. It was beautiful. Great team defense. EMU was lost.

For folks swooning over teams loaded with 3-point shooters, this team surely looks indeed ugly. But for those of us who like tough defense and physical scoring, this team is a throwback and becoming a joy to watch.

But without a true post presence offensively not really sustainable in terms of piling up wins.

Plain and simple this is a .500 team. Yet like most Kent teams, nobody really wants to play them, certainly not in a tournament.

If JHam can become a consistent 12-pt scorer the rest of the season, or Odusippe gets up to 6-7ppg consistently, plus Gio finds his 3-pt shot maybe 17-18 wins.

The other issue, outside of the two freshman bigs making a sophomore jump ... there really doesn't seem to be much upside for VCD or JHernandez and those were considered prime recruits. Great program guys, but not really top tier MAC talent. JC/Portal must be kind to Kent in the spring to make up for that.

Hopefully Sullinger drops his balls before the end of the season, too. That would be a big plus as well.

Overall, not really down on this team. They have at least found their identity. Now they have to embellish it.

At this point our identity is a defensive team and tonight the defense and effort was really good. So let's try to be happy. Heck, if it wasn't for the two low effort home losses to bad teams by a total of 6 points we'd be sitting at 6-1 in conference. Things could be a lot worse right now, and after the CMU and NIU losses I didn't think we'd be sniffing .500 in conference play. Deep breath.

Totally agree. All ESPN + guys really terrible. Best I’ve heard on a Kent
game this year was Joel Godett from Ball St.
My guess he will move up fast.

anti-zip, I'm happy. Relatively speaking, anyway. Sure, there have been better teams at KSU in my time, but also many, many worse. Of the 59 Kent State mens basketball teams I've seen, this one is better than average. And after the last two games, there is reason to at least be optimistic. And with good defense you can win a lot of games. They are holding opponents to only 39.6% shooting.

Older and older, to me there seems to be a lot of lousy announcers all over. I don't expect every game to be called by Vin Scully, but I at least expect then to know what the heck they are talking about.

Just a thought, but are announcers on-site at games or watching remote? Also, this could be different state-to-state.

RE: EMU game
Good question, AlphaFlash. I would guess some of both. But having listened to games, radio and TV, for 70 years, to me the overall quality for all sports announcing has gone downhill.

RE: EMU game
Has it? Or are we just listening to announcers we never would have because of all these games on ESPN. In the past we had a few sets of local announcers to listen to. In my case the professional sport teams (usually a much higher quality of announcers) and a few regular announcers for my favorite college teams. I suspect if you can breath they might sign you up to announce a game or two now days. There’s a bad side of every normal distribution and we hear a lot more of them today.

RE: EMU game
Could be that they weren't onsite so it makes it more difficult. I think they were in house last night because the one guy kept talking about the band being there. Either way, no excuse for thinking there was a 32 second shot clock. It's remarkable how often the refs review a play and the announcers have no idea why. It's clear a lot of the announcers don't actually know what's reviewable. Last night they thought they were either reviewing a backcourt violation, or a foil called on EMU. The latter is not reviewable. What they were likely reviewing was the potential of an elbow to the head (this is reviewable). Jacobs arms went up near the head when the foul was called on EMU. The ref was on the opposite side of Jacobs so he couldn't see if there was an elbow to the head (there wasn't). That's my take on that being review, but the announcers were bringing up a bunch of nonsense.

ESN+ announcers almost all seem to be huge homers and not very good.

RE: EMU game
EMU announcers were on site. A floor reporter interviewed Sendy afterwards. I think the remote announcing is pretty much over.
