RE: 2022 Football Depth Chart
We have an excellent roster. No worries at all on defense, we reloaded. WR will be a minor question mark, but it will all come down to QB. We could win anything from 7 games to 12 games depending on QB play.

i'd be worried about the defensive backfield in the sense that Sauce and, probably to a lesser extent, Coby some star treatment that our next set of starters may not enjoy.

ED: Not a huge concern but something to keep an eye on. i think teams are going to test them frequently.

Yes. There's a LOT wrong in that projected two deep...

I admire your restraint beast, but frankly, I think you are being too kind. It's fine to question another person's post as Bearcatman did, but just vaguely claiming it's "wrong" with no real explanation (as the two posters just prior to your response essentially did) isn't helpful nor constructive and very poor form. I appreciate your effort and willingness to accept feedback. Those who don't should "put up or shut up" in my opinion.

His entire career is predicated around writing about the Bearcats and he spends hours going to practices etc to get that information. If you want his opinion on the depth chart, you know where to find it. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free and all that.

Regardless of who any poster is or isn't, no one made anyone respond nor was anyone's specific opinion requested. What exactly is the value or point of posting that something that involved is "wrong" with no details or explanation? It's poor form especially when someone has put in the effort, including updates based upon constructive feedback, as beast has done.

I'm worried about the defense in the sense that Sauce was a generational player who took away the boundary receiver in ways even great cornerbacks don't do. It opened up so much for our defense. I think we have a ton of dudes that can play, but it's going to be weird seeing some passes completed outside this year.

That's pretty much where my head is on this matter too. Was Sauce that good or just that feared? I think both.

Do others feel our '22 defensive line may put more pressure on opposing QB's, faster? If so, that may offset some of the magic Sauce and Coby had to provide at times.

I think there's a decent chance our defensive line / linebackers are better this year than last year...and they were pretty damn great last year.

Better is up for debate IMO, but they will definitely play faster with Huber replacing Dublanko and Briggs in there. I do think we have the potential to disrupt the backfield from all gaps this coming year though, which is going to really trouble some of our opponents.

luke Collinsworth graduated from East Central h.s. where wilson huber's dad played at. His dad played tight end for UC years ago.

I appreciate the work done, but if you are going to spend that much time on something why not follow the free info we have put out or jump on a sale from The Athletic or 247 to get the info for a couple dollars a month? I'm also pumping out a ton of free content in podcast and video form these days that covers many of the specifics at each position. The answers are out there... 03-wink

Wil's dad is a fine guy too and attends all the games. He was a very good Bearcat himself on some teams that were really challenged competitively.

It's going to be fun watching Wil this season in a larger role. He's a very intelligent player and I expect we'll see some big, game changing plays such as that fumble recovery he had at Notre Dame. Football season can't start soon enough for many of us.

What's the status on Luke Fickel's son?

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't he ranked as a 3-star and had some interest from some P5 programs?

I believe he redshirted last year.

Could he see some playing time this year?

I guess what I am getting at, is he a legit prospect that is expected to be a big contributor at some point?

Offers were UC AKRON DARTMOUTH GARDNER-WEBB TOLEDO WKU YSU. Perhaps no better offers because he was assumed to be joining Luke.

Not high 3star at .8431 National 1291 IOL 79 OH 52

RE: 2022 Football Depth Chart
We've even seen 2 star recruits excel in this program. If it's just a small part of the reason Coach Fickell is more committed to being here for the next several years it was probably a wise decision. What I don't know is if his son can receive tuition remission since his father is an employee or if he's on an athletic scholarship. It makes no difference to me either way; I simply don't know how that's handled administratively.

Hopefully Prater will channel his inner Des this season.

I'm worried about the run defense still. Saban just punished us on the ground and we also couldn't stop Tulsa and Navy to save our lives either.

I'll throw Saban's boys out as they seem to run all over OSU and most anybody they encounter. But I agree completely about Tulsa and Navy and those were white knuckle viewing experiences at times before UC prevailed.

It makes me wonder if we'll see Tressel's fingerprints on this D a little more this season after going with what had worked for his predecessor last season? If anything, our AAC farewell tour will offer one last chance for such opponents to capture a signature win before UC moves onward and upward.

RE: 2022 Football Depth Chart
I have wondered if we will still see the 3-3-5 this season. It made sense with so many great defensive backs needing to be on the field last year. I wonder if we might go to 4 defensive backs and either a 3-4 or a 4-3 now that the defensive line and linebacker positions are stocked as well as the defensive backfield.

It seems they are still recruiting DBs at a higher level than anything else. Not sure if that plays into it or not.
