Thursday's games
Coach Foley, on the radio show, reported he had 10 players at practice the most he has had in a while. He gave every indication they would be playing Coastal on Thursday. He appeared very concerned because he felt like the team was "starting over" after not playing for a month. Darrell talked a good bit about the Covid and injury situation for his team. I never heard him address whether he expects to be able to play Thursday in Jonesboro. The truth is likely that he really doesn't know for sure since it depends on test results. I would think he has some idea what is most likely and that would have been nice to know. Not sure if they drive to Jonesboro on game day or go the night before. If the latter, we should know something tomorrow.

I can’t imagine that they would do a two and a half hour bus ride on game day to get off the bus and play a game. The only time I ever heard of something like that being imposed on a team was when Peterson made the team bus back and forth on game day to Hot Springs for the SBC Tournament to save money. Of course they only had to do it once, since surprise surprise they lost their first game.

No clue who that dude is. Still I wouldn't doubt that the information is accurate based on what has been going on with our program.

Sometimes he sits on coaches row but mostly sits right behind coaches row. He is a strong financial supporter of LR athletics.

Did I hear DW say he signed a big man out of JUCO ranks?

We did that for Covid reasons though. I am unsure if we had done that prior to the Pandemic.

Like you I don't know if we drive up to Jonesboro on game day. I don't think we do, but it certainly wouldn't shock me if we did.

Inglorious end to a fun conference series that at times really mattered in the league race.

Crazy way to end our conference rivalry. Playing twice in 3 days was crazy scheduling to begin with. If the league changes course and decides that some games should be made up, ours would likely be easier to schedule than most. That probably won't happen, but I have a strange feeling a matchup in Pensacola will.

According to info in the ADG this morning, even if the schools could get the games rescheduled, they wouldn’t count as conference games. This whole thing really sucks, and an awful way to end 30+ years of conference rivalry.

SURELY our ADs will continue this rivalry in non conference in all sports. I look the most forward to these games every year and there have been some great ones.

No doubt they will. Just too easy and convenient of a non-conference game not to. In fact, so easy that a home and home every year in non-conference might be doable. Or at least alternating home and away with them and UCA. But maybe there will be one last conference game against each other in the SBC Tournament.

Unfortunately, things that make too much sense often don't happen here. Why don't we play UCA and UAPB home and home? Road games would cost us basically nothing and would theoretically result in bigger than usual home crowds. We do play UCA once, at his point, but didn't play UAPB at all this season. I don't think the old RPI argument is even relevant anymore.
If this was an earlier time, a once a year "classic", at Simmons Bank arena in LR, between ASU vs. LR would have been great. But, these days, with both schools lucky to draw 1000 fans, it wouldn't make much sense. Maybe, a few years post-Covid, if fans return it could be revisited. With us now in different conference, a 4 team tournament with LR, ASU, UAPB, and UCA, in downtown Little Rock, would certainly be do-able. It might be fun, but I don't know if it would draw more than a couple of thousand people unless fan support grows at these schools. Not sure what happened to the days when UAPB would draw 25-30K at War Memorial for a football game. I know football is different than basketball, but if each school brought 2000 fans, it would fill the lower bowl and be a great college basketball atmosphere. I guess one can always dream.

Well, Covid is certainly part of what happened to crowds. But I love the idea of a 4 team two day tournament at the downtown arena now that all four teams will be in different conferences. It might not fill up the lower bowl, but neither did Little Rock very often when we played there, and it was still a good atmosphere! And something like that as an annual event would have an opportunity to grow! My guess is for four instate schools, a local sponsor could be found for the event.

That was my thought (great minds think alike). Get a big sponsor and/or a number of smaller ones. Make it an "event" around the holiday season. Maybe even schedule a concert associated with event. What if a local mall or big box store offered a 25 dollar coupon, for every 2 tickets purchased, for Christmas shopping? Bringing even 3000-4000 folks to downtown LR/NLR, for a couple of days, would be great for the economy. And hopefully it could grow over time.

RE: Thursday's games
This is my beef with the Little Rock metro.
A multiple year contract at Simmons Bank Arena on a standing date like Black Friday and Saturday or the X weekend of December with LR, AState, UCA and UAPB ought to be a thing.
But history tells us the business community is going to roll its eyes or ask why we aren’t doing it for gate receipts only.
Few years back when AState had Mizzou scheduled in football Kansas City was offering more than million dollars for the game and St Louis was offering $1.5 million. Little Rock offered to let AState pay them around $35,000 and in turn let the Red Wolves have a percentage of concessions and parking. Guess which offer went to the bottom of the pile?
The guy who put together the Detroit game came ito LR around 2007 hoping to start a bowl and got laughed out of town, not to be confused with the botched attempt in 2013.
The community could create an event that keeps the schools from chasing guarantees on the road or staying at home to play some Division II, III, or NAIA team. I’m just not hopeful.

Ya, I agree it's hard to be hopeful. Only time I can recall LR doing anything good sports-wise was getting the NCAA tournament here for the one and only time. Not sure how much community leaders helped with that. Just a really bad sports town, but I don't really understand why.

I know. If it hadn’t been for Stephens we’d be out of minor league baseball. There was no interest in doing anything about Ray Winder from the city government. NLR was so hopefully to boost the Argenta revival they could pass the tax but it came at the right time when voters were in the right mood.
