RE: Georgia vs Bama Thread
I think Georgia has a shot here to end the game here by just power running the ball for the final 5 minutes. 10 more plays ends the game.

Not sure why Georgia is snapping the ball with 24 seconds on the play clock.

Same here. Only thing I can think of is so Alabama can’t time the snap. Seems to be working whatever the reason.

Pick 6 Georgia-- that's the ballgame.

Bama was terrible on offense once Jameson Williams went down. No Williams- No Metchie--- big problem for Bama. Their young WR's didn't do much except drop a few key balls.

Georgia was the best team all year. Good for them.

AT the Cotton Bowl in the parking lot after the game--- a 50 year old bleach blonde Bama fan walks by a bunch of us UC fans and gives us a Roll Tide, with a giant smirk on her face.

We didn't say anything, bc there was no need to-- the same reason we didn't taunt ND fans after the game. We have some class.

So to that lady giving us the Roll Tide----- Karma is a *****. Go Dawgs--- enjoy that defeat. I don't think you are smirking now are you?

I hate both teams--- this game frustrates me, bc I thought UC could have played so much better offensively vs Bama. Georgia is doing to Bama what I thought UC would do--- take some deep shots-- roll out the QB-- a few designed QB runs--- getting the ball out to the TE's and RB's.

I'm still trying to figure out how both teams can lose--- that's the only acceptable outcome for me.

UC not taking shots down the field was really annoying. They weren't winning without chunk plays. Defense gave them chances to make them.

Better team won. GA’s D is crazy fast. Injuries just caught up to Alabama.

I also could not stop the “what if’s” while watching…especially those deep shots down the field.
Never did hear why there were no designed runs or more options for Ridder. I bet Saban was shocked and happy about that.

RE: Georgia vs Bama Thread
Agree Georgia overall had the better year. Cue up the conspiracy theorists to say that Georgia threw the SEC championship game to get another SEC team into the playoff.

I think the combo of Georgia being consistently better and Alabama injuries was the story of this game. Alabama made it a good game until the pick 6.

I could see myself tuning in to see this rivalry again. Of course UC Bearcats are my team always.

Glad to see someone new win and Georgia to get over the hump. I think i will watch these two teams play when i can and also root against LSU.

I don't think you'd ever get anyone to admit it...but for how different Georgia looked in that game vs. this one AND throughout the season...something fishy happened. Having said that, Alabama losing essentially all of it's wide receiver production in the span of two quarters against Georgia probably screwed up a ton of their potential gameplanning for this one.

Yep and with it being a rivalry game.. Georgia would always want to win. It's too much pride on the line. But still by all rights, Georgia should have beat them in that game also. I guess they would have matched up UC against Georgia again? Or would it have been UC vs Michigan? I would have loved to see UC vs Michigan.

I think it was 2 big things:

1. Bama was down 2 elite receivers. You mentioned this but this made a huge difference.
2. Georgia was much more aggressive and deceptive in their pressures the second time around. Everyone acted like Bama's offensive line was suddenly cured after the first game but it seems Bama's line was talented but struggled with disguised pressure and blitzes all season.

In the first game georgia tried to play them straight up, like they did everyone else. The Bama line handled that fairly well, Young bought time and the Bama playmaking wide receivers made plays. This time Bama brought pressure from in a lot of different ways, even when they rushed 4 (which was a good amount) Bama didn't know which 4 were coming and free runners often got through. I think Georgia absolutely wanted to win the first one to potentially eliminate Bama and win the SEC, but I also think they were comfortable playing it straight up knowing they'd get a second shot at it if they lost. Combine that with Bama's two best Wide Receivers going down and Georgia blasted through the open door.

Very good analysis as always!

With the caveat that the mid level teams didn't perform well in the bowls.

RE: Georgia vs Bama Thread
Bama wasn’t just down 2 day one type receivers, it’s two starting CBs and it’s nickel CB were all out. They also had a banged up OL from the UC game that caused them to flip their top 5 draft pick OT from the left to the right side for a long stretch last night as they went into Chinese fire drill mode. They were a bit of a M.A.S.H. unit. Their OC has to throw away most of the game plan when Williams went down with the blown knee. Crazy that he and Metchie both tore knees up against GA via non contact injuries.

Yep on the radio i was hearing that one of the guys Alabama ended up playing was a JC transfer. They were really in the game still until the pick 6. It was a pretty entertaining championship game overall. Definitely sloppy with fumbles and penalties. Penalties kind of go with the territory in fierce rivalry games.

They had 13 bowl-eligible teams. So a lot of their matchups were like this: Auburn (6-6, last place in SEC West) versus Houston (#20 in the country, 2nd in AAC).

What's more telling to me is that despite that matchup issue, all the SEC bowl losses were close except LSU (who only had 38 scholarship players) and MSU.

They had 2 blowout wins, 3 close wins, 6 close losses, and 2 blowout losses.

Yep. One was a Juco I’d never seen this year and the other was a 5 star Freshman who played a few games down the stretch as a replacement. They were as thin in the secondary this year as I’ve seen them in 6 years of following. One of the reasons I was so let down we didn’t try to test them down field more as part of the original game plan.
