Penny is in his 4th year and probably only makes the tournament by winning the conference tournament. Just shocked we have had such a long drought.

Neither Yates, Finch nor Pastner had to rebuild the team.

Bartow, Kirk, Cal and Penny have had to.

03-lmfao PASTNER didn't have to ? 01-wingedeagle

No he certainly didn't.
He came in with attendance, money, and national PR at an all-time high.
He lost his top 3 guys, but returned all 6 of the remaining rotation - including Witherspoon, Mack, Kemp, and Sallie.
He was also gifted an NBA player in Elliot Williams.
That is not a rebuild.

As memory serves ----I could be wrong LOL---family/dad didn't want him playing for X/JUDAS/FREDO/BENEDICT--so he went elsewhere . After Judas left ---Williams GRANDMOTHER/family member ? got sick and NCAA allowed transfer back home --------so I guess Pastner sort of did get him in unusual way

I’d say so. Sounds like he didn’t do anything. Lucky guy.

Mack and Spoon could have started for Penny. Kemp would be an upgrade at the PG spot at the moment.

In NCAA basketball, there isn't anything more meaningless than all of this. Each job is purely coach driven. We have seen dozens of programs take years if not decades to recover from losing great coaches. Some never do. NCAA basketball programs are purely coach driven.

Arkansas - Richardson
Georgetown - Thompson

UConn - Calhoun

Quote:He lost his top 3 guys, but returned all 6 of the remaining rotation - including Witherspoon, Mack, Kemp, and Sallie.

He lost his top FOUR scorers. Tyreke, Dozier, Taggart and Anderson. The 2001 team returned 8 of its top 9.

2001
Wise
Scooter
Barron
Grice
Chatman
Trask

2010
EW
Coleman
Spoon
Sallie
Mack
Kemp

The 2001 team would win. 2010 had a front line of first year Juco Coleman, Niles (2.4 points as a junior) and Garcia, who only played 12 games because of major injuries the two seasons before. That was the entire roster at the 4 and 5.

Quote:He was also gifted an NBA player in Elliot Williams.
He played less than 10 games 3 out of his 5 seasons, and started 2 games in his entire career. Earl started 31 games.

I know about the hardship transfer, but he still had to recruit him. IF he didn't like Pastner, he wouldn't have come. He quadrupled his scoring and increased his assists more than five fold. Give Pastner some credit, and also give him credit for Spoon and Kemp improving. Cal was gifted Scooter and Kelly Wise was better than anyone Pastner inherited.

Quote:That is not a rebuild.
Out of that nucleus he lost EW, Kemp, Mack and Niles the next season, not to mention Garcia and Sallie ending up leaving. The only inherited player left on the roster after his second season was Spoon. It was every bit the rebuild.

Pastner didnt know how to use Garcia. Hard to blame him for leaving in the middle of the season to get paid to play.
