I used to be a mega supporter for the last 10 years. Last year I stopped watching, just looking at box scores. This year I don't even look at the schedule. I don't have physical game tickets to remind me of games. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way. Just kind of burned out and odu basketball has taken a seat at the back of the brain bus.
Probably doesn't help that odu's kenpom is *checks notes* 187(!)
Completely agree. This is killing college athletics - especially at the G5 level. If they schools don't wake up and reject this nonsense - they are going to find they lost everything in the process. I was a season ticket holder for 25+ years. They've lost me and I'm wondering if I will ever come back. They are losing student support and those students will most likely not go on to become season ticket holders and ODAF contributors if they don't connect to the team/school during their time as a student. They are robbing the students of the student experience. My daughter threw in the towel and has gone totally on-line for classes. Those students are not the future supporters of a University or it's athletics.
I completely agree with all above as well. There is so much frustration it can’t be stated in one post. I have been a long time strong supporter of the program. I was not a fan of hiring Jones at the time but publicly supported him for one reason, it’s our school, and I proudly wear the school logo. I have quit going to BB games but have been still following and watching on ESPN +.
What little chance I had of coming back to bb games as a supporter ended this season from quotes made from Jones after the VCU and UR games. Following both games Jones stated and I quote, “We stepped up in weight class” against VCU and UR. Really? Plenty of years we lost to those teams and plenty of years we whipped them but whenever has our program had to say we moved up in weight class to play those schools? We didn’t even do that when we were DII. We would beat them on any given night along with the VT’s and UVA’s of the world. I also didn’t like Blaine Taylor at the end for other obvious reasons but he would not allow his players to call themselves a mid major. He made sure our players were expected to compete with anyone they played. With the comments Jones made it sounds like to me he is expecting mediocrity.
Moving to the Sunbelt has sparked an interest in me ( yes, I hate CUSA and never hid that feeling), so I am becoming more of a football fan than before ( Thank you coach Rahne), but I am done with BB until some changes are made.
I was seeing an old post yesterday and saw your name and wondered whatever happened to you. Hadn't seen a post by you in a long time unless I just missed it.
I totally agree with what you have written, although I don't go to football games.
“We stepped up in weight class” against VCU and UR." I missed that but man, that is just flat WEAK for a coach to say that. Man. That's just bad.

RE: Are we playing basketball anymore?
Isn't it possible that "stepping up in a weight class" was comparing UR and VCU to our previous opponents, and not related to his perception of our own team?

Highly likely that's what he meant. But if we looked at it that way, we wouldn't be able to criticize him for his honesty about the schedule.

Not so sure about that... It did take a buzzer beater to beat Longwood at home...

Making good use of the $1M re-routed from the wrestling drop, it seems.

If not playing games while other schools are playing seems weird right now, just pretend it's March. Then it will feel normal.

Does anyone know the chances of this game happening on Thursday night?

Tonight’s game was NOT basketball. It was a total clusterf$ck. No leadership, no passion, no excitement for us fans. Just a boring boring game in which we lead at the end, then give the game away. Guess we shouldn’t be too surprised. Seen this video over and over during the Jones years…

Soooooo sad, but true. Makes me sick to see our previously proud men’s basketball program die. Have been a huge fan for over 40 years. Have completely lost interest….
