Congratulations North Dakota State, FCS Champions
The #2 Bison defeated #8 Montana State 38-10.

That makes 9 national titles in the past 11 years for NDST.

I wish I realized that this game was being played (and televised) today. I would love to have watched it.

I guess the FCS demonstrates that having an inclusive championship tournament will lead to greater parity within the division, and will prevent having a handful of teams dominate every year. Oh, wait....

I watched much of it. It was fun just because of the occasion, but not much of a game. Over by halftime.

It was over on MSU's first drive when their QB(and the complete heart of their offense) went out with an ankle injury. It probably was going to be a Bison win anyway, but that injury turned it from a probable competitive game into a blowout.

Doesn't help that Montana State's dynamic freshman QB got hurt on the 4th play of the game. The Starter for most of the season hit the portal after it became clear that the freshman was going to take his spot for the playoffs. So Montana State played the whole game with it's 3rd string QB, a guy who lost his starting job to their linebacker a few years ago..

OK, but still. Even if we toss this game out, which I see no reason to do, NDST had still won 8 of the previous 10 national titles.

Even Nick Saban can only dream of that kind of dominance. And all with a 16 and 24 team playoff.

That is why the AD said they are ready for FBS if anybody wants to give them an invite. They could give the AAC the run for the money for the NY6 bowl.

I think the problem NDST has is that they are really isolated up there, 240 miles to the northwest of Minneapolis.

IIRC, they play their games in one of those weird blimp-hangar type stadiums, those 20,000 seat Igloo Domes.

Not a very inviting place to travel to, IMO, especially with no FBS conferences in that area.

I may never again watch an FCS title game until NDSU is not participating. Though I give that program 110 percent props for amazing work done, I simply can't get excited because we all know NDSU is going to roll in the big game. At least some of the women's hoops title games with UConn (back when Geno had them at the pinnacle) were fairly close and interesting.

Seems like a strawman.

That's a good point. IIRC, NDST is now 9-0 in the FCS title game, at least during this current streak since 2011. The only times they haven't won are when they were eliminated in an earlier round.

RE: Congratulations North Dakota State, FCS Champions
FCS has always had a few powers being dominant. Eastern Kentucky appeared in the 2nd through 5th title games, winning two. From years 8 to 24, Georgia Southern won 6 and lost 1. During that time frame Furman won 1 and lost 2 with Montana going 2 and 2 and Marshall went 2-3 and Youngstown 4-2 at one point playing each other 3 years in a row. 15 wins and 10 losses over a 17 year period from 5 schools. Only ULM and UMass outside that group won titles.

During the NDSU era, Sam Houston won one and lost two and James Madison won the other while losing twice.

In the 9 years in between the NDSU and GSU eras, App St. won 3 in a row, Delaware won 1 out of 3 and Montana lost 3 times. One of those 3 was in the title game the last 8 years in that era.

Yeah, it's time for NDSU and C-USA to talk about a FB-Only partnership. I know C-USA is trying to regionalize their members and NDSU wants the MWC, but both sides need each other right now.

Yes, since the founding of FCS/IAA in 1978, there have been dynasties going on more times than not.

In fact, one could argue that the time period when FCS was least characterized by dominance was during its first 8 years, from 1978 - 1985. During that time, only one team won the FCS title two times, and nobody won it back to back. And this was when the bracket was at its *smallest*, from a 4-team playoff from 1978-1980, 8 teams from 1981-1982 and 12 teams from 1983-1985.

It was only beginning in 1986, when the playoff expanded to 16 teams, that dynasties took hold.

9-0 in the title game? Impressive. I thought NDSU had lost at least one championship game.

Need to make a conference at the FBS level of the Montana and Dakota schools + a few others. Only way it’ll work out and I don’t think it’s even possible for a whole conference to move up but never know with the ncaa.

NoDak was always the butt of jokes for this since it wasn’t realistic, but the NoDak League was actually a terrific concept. If only Montana/Montana St joined the WAC 10 years ago, NDSU/SDSU would’ve eventually followed.

So today you would’ve had NDSU/SDSU/Montana/MSU/Idaho and 5 of these 7: NMSU/UTEP/SHSU/SFA/Lamar/Tarleton/McNeese.

Too late for it now. It’s too bad.

In both cases they lost to the eventual champion - to James Madison in the semifinals in 2016 and to Sam Houston State in the quarterfinals in the COVID year played last spring.
