Do y’all realize FBS football is now the NFL without a salary cap???
The NCAA has lost total control over college athletics.

I don't know why is he afraid of competition, guess he is only about the money if he goes to EMU.

This one depends on enforcement, cause "Here's X Dollars to go to Y School" is against the letter of the NIL rules. So if this guy does sign with EMU (doubtful) then the NCAA could come in and crack down on them.

RE: OT: Caleb Williams could get a cool million to play at EMU
Things have sure escalated quickly! Did anyone think that upper echelon players were worth millions? I always figured that even top SEC, Big 10, etc players were being paid thousands, maybe even tens of thousands under the table but not hundreds or even millions. Now we have a bunch of 17-18 year olds that will be instant millionaires the second they sign a contract with the company representing the university. Just not seeing anything good coming out of all this. If this becomes a thing, especially in the G5, we can potentially have a situation where the highest earning person in the team won't be the head coach, but rather one of the student athletes. That'll get weird pretty quick.

Not sure how I'd feel if I was a lowly left tackle blocking for a million dollar QB.

All depends on if that million dollar QB is buying you dinner or not. There have already been guys that have shared their NIL money with teammates.

I’m not sure you’re right about this. EMU can’t say “here’s X dollars to go to EMU,” but I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in the NCAA policy that prevents an unaffiliated person from saying “here’s X dollars to go to EMU.”

What University you sign with cannot be a part of the NIL deal, at least officially.

Competition in a game for a few years versus enough money to retire before you're 40 (assuming you have honest people around you). I know which I'd choose. Unless i was a guaranteed 1st round NFL pick, I'm taking the money and going to enjoy football at the place giving it to me.

Nick Saban said Bryce Young (who hadn't even started a game yet) was "almost 7 figures" by the end of this past summer. It was later reported to be north of $800k. There is likely a lot of fine print in the biggest NIL deals that tie a player to a school for multiple years and have a performance metric that somehow falls outside the "pay for play" definition.

As would most. This is why you have people like Saban calling for regulation. Can't risk losing some of those 4 and 5 star kids that typically get paid under the table to the little guys.

Yeah the schools can't enforce a kid to stay at that school, but a contract between the player and the bankroll would be binding or have monetary consequences for leaving. Might become a standard part of NIL deals to keep the players there. Should probably be that way. Then if an Ohio State wants a player they'd at least have to buy out the NIL contract to get them. No more free minor league.

Again, the NCAA owes S.M.U. a formal apology.
There’s definitely going to be some changes coming. Like Always Sunny said, the big guys aren’t going to stand for it being used as a recruiting equalizer. Jackson State stealing that kid from Florida State was the first shot fired.
