There was a theory that BC, UConn, and Northeastern are good in baseball now because none have lacrosse to divert funds and attention away from. UMass on the other had has baseball AND lacrosse and stinks in baseball.

South Carolina had football for years, but stunk at it until they started hiring very good, veteran coaches. South Carolina always had good fan support though. Does baseball or lacrosse get better fan support @ UMass?? Are there more baseball or l lacrosse alumni?

I do believe many schools aren't good with spreading out resources across all programs and the equity thing. I'll go further and say that athletic directors are often too chained to specific sports and resource-building/fundraising for them to a very disproportionate degree and at the expense of other programs. I think of good athletic departments who can manage that "share" at the FBS level (like Duke; I'm not even a fan) versus those who just plain suck at everything.

Slowly but surely you will see Northern/Eastern schools replace baseball with lacrosse. Compared to lacrosse baseball is a slow plodding sport that todays' kids don't have the temperament or attention span to follow.

I’d like to see Utah drop baseball in favor of Men’s soccer. Especially now before we build a new on-campus field (have shared a field with the 3A team that is relocating).

I think Utah can continue to support LAX. I think there are currently 63 HS teams playing in 3 divisions which should provide for growing local interest.

That would make sense, especially with schools that don't play a home game the first month of the year.

lets not act like BC baseball has been some powerhouse. outside of this year, Boston college baseball has been awful. 4 winning seasons in the past 10 years.

UMASS has a long successful history of lacrosse, played in the national championship not too long ago. And they did it while sharing resources with a baseball program...

UCONN and Boston college could both be perennial final four contenders if they started lacrosse programs.

Baseball at UMass isnt fully funded. They dont give the full amonut of scholarships allotted and the stadium doesnt have lights or field turf. Not sure why they even have a team.

Yes, there are private schools playing it elsewhere, but it's not in the public school leagues the way baseball is.

I disagree.

Illinois High Schools now play for a state championship. Lacrosse is growing in the Midwest and growing quickly in public schools.

It is hurting High School baseball teams and football.

(I announced LAX games for over 10 years in the Chicago area.)

If you know any young adults that love lacrosse and want to teach and coach, the Chicago area needs you. What these teenagers are missing is quality coaching.
