It definitely works for the Barons at Regions Field.

I understand we'll need to get used to weeknight games moving to a new conference/TV deal, but I feel like having A&M as an opponent is a bit wasted on a Thursday night game. Weekend would have a lot more fans travel in for the event. It also essentially shreds one tailgating opportunity for me on the season. I know it's not always in our control, just a little down about that.
They have a very, very, very large alumni base in Birmingham. So they'll be there.

Instead you designate pickup areas on the north and south side of town for continuous shuttle service to and from Uptown. Each pickup area would have a designated letter and riders would be a color wristband identifying the shuttle they will board to return to the area they parked.

That is a terrific idea.

Florida St. does something similar and it was very efficient.

If anyone can't plan / make arrangements to be off or get off late this far out that is on you, not UAB. Zero excuse not to have 40K or more in the stands. Market market market UAB........ Not just this game but all of them. If only your own fans know you are playing that is on you UAB.

To be fair, I've seen the commercial advertising 2022 season tickets a lot. I think it's run in every bowl game.

I REALLY hate these comments. How offensive to assume you know everybody’s individual situation.

Last time I said that I wouldn’t be able to make a game bc it was on the Thursday of Labor Day (note that I wasn’t saying it was a bad idea, or that I was upset about it…just that it ruled me and my family out, which makes me sad), I was told that I had obviously made bad career decisions (that poster has since been banned)

The obvious answer is quitting your job.

It’s amazing what people say/assume in here, like your schedule HAS to revolve around UAB sports to be a real fan. I’m not burning vacation days and spending money for a hotel/gas to see us play Alabama A&M. I’d go if I were local, but I’m not spending 8 hours round trip for that game. Sorry if that makes me a bad fan/alum.

No it doesn't make you a bad fan. I'm local and will not go to the game. I'll give my 2 tix away.

Obviously I was not speaking to the geographically impaired or say it made anyone a bad fan. I know sone UAB gas in Texas that probably won’t go. The two sec schools can manage to get south of 200k to a game on Saturdays we are struggling to get 25 tickets sold. Obviously they find reasons to go. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get try and get 40k for a Thursday night game and make it a goal to average 30k for a season. I have already reserved that day off and I live a hour away.

Also to be fair marketing is more than running a few promos for season tickets.

So many fans they’ll complain what day of the week the game is, if it’s too hot/cold, sunny/cloudy, early/afternoon/night, it’s ridiculous. I’ll always be there unless I have other family plans, which are always more impt.

I think that A&M will bring plenty of fans. I expect close to a sell out.

Game 1 of the 2022 Season
You know, I think about our struggles to sell tickets at the gate and I really think the dynamics have changed since COVID. I don’t know that anyone has figured how to adjust…and that’s including all sports at all levels. Most events I watch on TV show the stands just completely gutted. Tennessee Titans hold the #1 seed in the AFC and their home game last week was only 3/4th full and they’ve been virtually full with the recent playoffs streak up until 2020.

Bowl games were virtually empty but ESPN only wants TV eyeballs so they couldn’t care less about trying to help sell more tickets.

Attendance has been an issue below the big brands long before COVID.

Correct. Covid is now a coping excuse when our game 1 attendance has been cut in half by the time we reach game 4 or 5. Been a long standing issue for most.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
I've generally been against the opening Thursday night game, for selfish reasons. Usually always have a work conference the week before labor day, but as conferences have generally been cancelled along with everything else, it has become a non-issue. So, that being said, this has potential. Somebody mentioned it above. Nobody wants to go to Legion Field on a Thursday night. But, man, the downtown crowd- folks get off work and come, the 20- and 30something crowd looking for an event. Like Thirsty Thursday at Barons games. This has potential at the new stadium.

I want to be this positive, but I just don't see this yet. The folks that just get off work don't want to fight traffic/parking to try and get to a game, they want to go home (if they aren't already working from home in the first place).

Like a said before, to me the biggest loss is tailgating and since that's a huge part of the football experience for me now, it's disappointing that I'll have to take a day off and ask others to take days off to participate.

This isn't going to change with our new conference as our TV deal will have us playing weeknight games, but A&M is a great tailgating/event type opponent that it seems like it is a waste to have it on a Thursday.

But we'll see :-)
