Maybe the Huntsville stations will actually cover it. They avoid Birmingham like it's a leper colony but report on every SEC school.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
Love the opponent, not a huge fan of the day of week. I understand we'll need to get used to weeknight games moving to a new conference/TV deal, but I feel like having A&M as an opponent is a bit wasted on a Thursday night game. Weekend would have a lot more fans travel in for the event. It also essentially shreds one tailgating opportunity for me on the season. I know it's not always in our control, just a little down about that.

Love the opponent. Hate the weeknight as an opener. Cuts attendance significantly and prevents us out of town alumni from attending and bringing our families. Oh well. Maybe it will be televised.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
Accommodate the fickle, two-school fans by playing on Thursday or the alumni and season ticket holders by playing on Saturday?
I’m just happy it’s a night game in September. Whew.
We get Liberty in week 2. Gives us a day or two of extra rest

Holiday weekend, I’m there with bells on. Like Thursday way better than Saturday. 45k+ will be there.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
Last official 3-day Summer weekend, I'm sure some A&M fans will be eager to see the stadium. A sellout will depend on how many people will make it a 4-day weekend and not work the 2nd.

I think the increase in attendance from casual fans (with no AU or UA overlap) will more than make up for a decrease in attendance from out of town alumni.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
The last time UAB and A&M played was the Return game in 2017. Attendance was a home record 45,212.
In 2019, UAB played Alabama State on a Thursday night leading into Labor Day weekend. Attendance was 39,165; the third biggest home crowd ever.
Expect a sell out.

Should help that A&M is pretty good now and just hauled in a bunch of FBS transfers from the portal. Their fans should be pretty excited about their team competing in the SWAC.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
This game should present some logistical challenges, and be a pretty good test for us and for Protective Stadium. As in, how is parking going to work out on a work day downtown, when people are getting off work an hour or so before kickoff? I know this has been discussed quite a bit in the past, and we'll get to see how it works. And can we really expect much in the way of tailgating during business hours? If we have a really good crowd, close to the numbers we had for #TheReturn game, then it will be nice to finally see the stadium near capacity, like it was for the bowl game.
I didn't see a game time, but I am guessing it will be at 6:00 or 6:30. I know many of you like the early start times for basketball games (I don't), but it definitely affects our attendance in that we probably gain 30% of our attendance after the 10 minute mark of the first half. It's hard to get downtown for some people at 6:00 or 6:30, and I wonder if some just don't bother coming to the games at that hour, if they are going to miss a significant chunk of the game. I'm sure more people will be inclined to come for the football opener, but they may also be late.
Another challenge will be if the students will be around, considering that may be the beginning of a long weekend for them as well. Classes start back on Aug. 22, so I guess it depends if their classes go through that Friday after the game. It was great seeing the students pack out much of their sections for the first game last year, but then to see maybe a hundred students there for the UTEP game on Thanksgiving weekend was a reality of what it could be like if they are not in town.

RE: Game 1 of the 2022 Season
We'll see if any lessons were learned from the Birmingham Bowl parking fiasco. Easy solution would be not to allow parking near Uptown on Gameday.
Instead you designate pickup areas on the north and south side of town for continuous shuttle service to and from Uptown. Each pickup area would have a designated letter and riders would be a color wristband identifying the shuttle they will board to return to the area they parked.

Saw this idea on Twitter. We should market it as Thirsty Thursday, this would also attract casual football fans and young people in Birmingham.
