I’m assuming you’re not pleased with USM’s addition in the SBC. They are solely relying on past success. At least LT has been good recently.

I guess so.
In the last 10 years USM has had 5 winning seasons (3 of those by one game above .500) and went 1-3 in bowl games.
In the last 10 years LT has had 7 winning seasons (only one of those by one game above .500) and went 6-1 in bowl games.

I don't believe that.
- LA Tech just hired a fantastic new football coach. So, Tech will be back almost immediately. Tech had more players drafted into the NFL and won more bowl games and men's CUSA basketball games than any school in CUSA 3.0.
- WKU is a perennially good football & a great basketball program. No shade here.
- UTEP is already back in football, and is a very good basketball school
- SHSU & JSU are definite football upgrades vs some of the programs CUSA just lost
- NMSU is a really good mens basketball program.
- MTSU won a lot more CUSA 3.0 football games than most people realize. When I researched it last year, MTSU was actually ranked 3rd (or 4th?) in CUSA 3.0 --behind LA Tech and Marshall-- as far as the number of CUSA 3.0 wins they had compiled.
- Liberty appears to be very good at pretty much all sports as far as I can tell.
These 8 schools will be competitive quickly. (And we're all praying for FIU. LOL!) With such a crowded 14-team SBC, I can't see how the SBC will do better. One of the things we've all learned is, the more members you have, the more you also have in the cellar. And I'll just tell ya now, Marshall ain't showing up to just be friendly. They'll kick some azzes in the Sunbelt. And if Marshall and USM BOTH start winning Sunbelt games, that's a whole lot fewer wins left over for some of the traditional SBC powers. There are going to be some unhappy folks in the Sunbelt two to 3 years form now. LOL!
Hahahaha. You'd crawl back to the sunbelt if they'd have you and you know it. Cusa was a dumpster fire, and now, it's just ashes.

If a SBC invite came, sure, MTSU would take it (and I would support it). ESPN and security is important. That doesn’t change my opinion that CUSA 4.0 isn’t that bad of a setup. Geographically it isn’t ideal but I actually like the teams about as much as I would the AAC and SBC.

I fear with each alignment CUSA's footprint is gonna continue to get more spread out.

Other than Napier and a few years of Hudspeth ULaLa is around a 500 team. Would expect them to go to that range but they will have a favorable schedule if they play the western SBC teams.
So you're basically discounting all of their recent history?
Good argument.
Hasnt Napier been their coach the last few years?
Yeah it’s actually quite hilarious Sunbelt never had a top 25 team up until a few years ago when they signed the ESPn deal
That’s right almost 20 years without a top 25 team.

We’ve had a couple down seasons after an incredibly successful decade. We’ll be alright.

I think within 5 years. I’m not sold on CCU or ULL long term. App is the torch bearer for the SBC.
CCU has one of highest all time winning percentages in the country since starting football, a prime recruiting destination, and one of highest athletic budgets in the SBC. Recruiting has caught up to their FBS peers now. Surprised if they don't at least contend yearly.

It will be interesting to see if NIL and the transfer portal actually changes what FCS call-ups are able to do in their first few years. It was rare for teams to come up to 1-A and actually play better than 0.500 ball, but the NCAA has evolved in just the last 5 years at levels never before seen.

Had to look it up... Tech made the jump to FBS (IA at the time) in 1988. We finished 4-7. Had a road win at Kansas State, but road losses at Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Florida State. Had a home loss to Houston (Andre Ware's Heisman year), other games were losses at Wyoming, home to Arkansas State, USM and wins over the UL-Xs and Nicholls State.
I think college football has changed recently and the better FCS programs are much closer in quality to the general FBS level. JMU will do well, as will JSU and SHSU in the new CUSA. By "do well" I mean contend for a .500+ season and be a tough out for any conference foes playing them. Don't sell them short.
Looking at this list of schools, how many of these "first year" seasons were served as Division 1-A Independents?
