History however says otherwise.

Times have changed a lot in the last 20 years of WMU hockey. KB invested in three successful head coaches and the Broncos were forced to leave the CCHA and join the best conference in the country. They play among the best teams in the nation. While they have traditionally struggled to make the tournament, they are ranked in the Top 5 and have their best chance in years to end their tournament skid.

Yup. Agree with you. Who know's, National Champs sounds good!!

Wow - nice contract. KB wasn't making this much.

RE: Dan Bartholomae Introductory Press Conference
"Bartholomae's $290,000 annual salary puts him near the top of the state's mid-major ADs; Central Michigan's Amy Folan also makes about $290,000, Eastern Michigan's Scott Wetherbee makes $269,000 and Oakland's Steve Waterfield has a $237,000 salary. Detroit Mercy's Robert Vowels' salary isn't known; the university is private and thus isn't subject to disclosing salaries to the public.

Bartholomae also can make up to $30,000 more in bonuses, based on academic and athletic successes. He also is allotted $650 a month for an automobile, has a membership to Kalamazoo's social Park Club, is allotted $6,000 a year for a golf membership, and will be reimbursed up to $20,000 for moving expenses."

Sweet gig. How do I land one if these jobs?

The salary makes sense, at least in regard to what rival institutions are paying their ADs. Still a ridiculous amount for an employee at a public university to be making. And the bonuses and perks are even sillier. 6 grand for a golf membership?? 650 per month for a car? What is he driving, a Ferrari? Why can't he pay for these things himself, with his 290k salary?

In regards to the auto $ that is typical in a sales type role and on par. You drive your own car but the allotment is meant to pay for car, insurance, gas, mileage, wear and tear, etc. he would have to travel around SW Michigan and other MAC states.

Need to smooze the big donor and future donors of the world like Upjohns and Seeleys etc..That’s done on WMUs dime.

It will be worth it if he can raise funds for athletic facilities. I have a feeling KB was on cruise control in the comfort lane the past 10-15 years. I guess that happens when you give a volleyball coach a lifetime cushy AD gig...

I suppose if it brings in some big donations, it's a worthy investment. Maybe it's just weird to me because I don't work in this world of college athletics, or donations, development, etc...

I don’t imagine her playing much golf with the local big wigs in the area

AD on cruise control would not hire an Andy Murray or PJ Fleck.
She coached gymnastics not volleyball

Well-said, okgc.

Beauregard did a very good job over a long period sometimes in difficult circumstances.

She should be lauded for her tenure as WMU AD, not criticized.

You loud KB for hiring the stepping stone coach (fleck). Ironic that you all complain fearing that the new AD will be just a stepping stone.

Lol... AD making $290,000 after they cut about 10 low-level staffing positions, president wants to cut more money from athletics, budgets slashed. WMU is a joke

Well at least she was a coach (maybe get the sport right). The new guy never played sports in his life.

"loud"? I think you meant "laud."

I may be wrong but I can only remember one AD who left here for another AD job - Carl Ulrich, who bolted after one year (1980) for Army.

If Batholomae does a good job here and moves up the professional ladder - good for him and us.

In 1997 WMU AD Jim Weaver left to be AD at Virginia Tech.

You are right, I forgot about that. Thanks for correction.

He was the one who hired Gary Darnell, with whom he had worked at Florida as I recall.

Weaver also helped us schedule home games with both Virginia Tech and Virginia. Seemed like a brilliant move at the time, but the games were disasters. So many things changed so fast at WMU back then

I would be very happy if Bartholomae does well enough here to move up the ladder.
