RE: Going pro…
I have no idea what to expect as far as the draft goes. Currently WalterFootball's mock has 1 QB going in the first round and that's not until 20th. CBS's most recent mock has 2 going in the first but again, the first is 20th I can't remember a QB class so unheralded. Unless teams are getting way better at misdirections it seems like most teams are not thrilled about the QBs which leads me to believe there's not a big difference between say #4 or #5 to #15. I could see some team(s) thinking they'd rather wait until later and go for the more unknown option. It only takes one.

The lack of legit KSU coverage certainly hasn't helped us know what to expect. I saw Terry Pluto wrote an article on Crum the other day. Projected he'd be on a practice squad next year and compared him to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

RE: Going pro…
About ten picks left....No Crum sighting yet. I was thinking possibly GB, had 4 7th round draft picks. One left as of writing

RE: Going pro…
Now that the USFL exists I wonder if any undrafted free agents will go straight there (or can they)? Show yourself off to the NFL teams in pro games before training camps start. I guess it's probably not worth the injury risk if teams are interested in signing you. Just very difficult for UDFAs to show what they're capable of. Especially someone like Crum who's best asset is probably his football IQ and decision making. Not always easy to see in drills. I mean, there's a reason he couldn't win the starting QB job in his first three training camps.

I actually think KC is a good landing spot for Crum. Obviously no chance to start, but he can learn behind one of the best, their backup is a 36 year old career backup, and the other two QBs on their roster are young undrafted guys.

I disagree

Crum is going to Chiefs. Just happened.

Quote: A pair of Golden Flashes have signed free agency deals coming out of the 2022 NFL Draft with quarterback Dustin Crum signing with the Kansas City Chiefs and wide receiver Keshunn Abram signing with the New York Jets.

Crum’s first game 6-11 only 18 yards, 3 rushes for 28 yards and sacked 3 times. Hopefully it was just first game jitters and things slow down for him to show progress next game.

He was better than that. On about a 20-25 yard sideline route he hit the receiver nicely who couldn't drag his second foot. Most starting WR would have made that catch. Had one drop. Then the rest of the day he was running for his life. Literally.

That's good to hear. Did you watch when Buechele was in and if so how did he look? It's a pretty clear cut battle between those two for the 3rd QB spot (if they keep three). I saw he had a pick and a TD. There was a video last week of Kelce mic'd up at practice where he talks up Crum to a teammate at one point. Always good to have a star pass catcher on your side.

That is good to hear, I didn’t get to see any of the game, but wondered if the sacks and runs were as result of poor protection or the game coming at him too fast (ala Willie Beamon).

Anyone, including Mahomes would have been running for their life behind that line. He literally didn't stand a chance. Buchelle looked decent. The thing is, some of it depends on what they are paying guys. If they like Buchelle and Crum a contract like Henne may become expendable. Not saying that is what is going to happen, but sometimes it weighs into things.

Nice job on 3rd and 9 to get out of a collapsing pocket and fight for a 1st down.

RE: Going pro…
Danny, I'm sure it's possible they keep both and cut Henne, but I'd be surprised. They have 9.5 mil in cap space and Henne is only costing them 2 mil. Plus I'm sure he earned himself some credit in the organization stepping in to beat the Browns when Mahomes went down in the playoffs. Reid doesn't strike me as the type to be ok with going into the season with his backup QBs being an undrafted rookie and an undrafted 2nd year player with no NFL snaps between them. If they like them both it seems more likely to me that whoever loses out get signed to the practice squad.

One thing I'll add is it's good to hear that Crum's running was due to bad coverage not designed plays. KCs QBs don't run much and you generally like your backups to mirror your starter so the system can stay the same if you have to bring them in (example, the Browns QB room this year vs last year). So I doubt they heavily value him running to run. But anyone values the ability to run out of necessity.

For backups in the NFL, does it matter more how the player does in practice as opposed to the pre-season games? I would think you would learn much more in practice than the pre-season games for the 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Well his ability to escape pressure definitely shows up better in games since you can't hit the QB in practice.

Looks like Mahomes played a lot, Crum got mop up duty, 3-3 27 yards sacked once and took 2 knees to end the game.

RE: Going pro…
Crum only got one throw today in the final preseason game while the guy he's competing with played most of the game. Not a good sign. This article seems to think he's not likely to get a practice squad shot even.

I have read they aren't even going to keep 3 QB's. Likely to cut Buchele and Crum.
