Politics is the dirtiest business of all. I guess that's why it pays so much.

This doesn't hide the fact that Democrats are trying to ban gerrymandering altogether but Republicans want to keep the practice the law of the land. There's a reason for this. Republicans would have a very hard time winning Congress or the Presidency without gerrymandering.

True.

Quote:Republicans and Democrats alike would have a very hard time winning Congress or the Presidency without gerrymandering.
With respect to Congress, that is true. But the Presidency is determined by the Electoral College, and the Electoral College isn’t affected by gerrymandering, unless you’re talking about Maine/Nebraska awarding their electoral votes by district. But that really is like adding a teaspoon to a gallon.

There is one and only one way to “ban” gerrymandering, and that is to ban single-member districts altogether. Have candidates run on an at-large basis.

I will say that even with single-member districts, you could still greatly mitigate the effects of gerrymandering by implementing non-partisan primaries and ranked-choice-voting. I am a strong advocate for both of those reforms.

RE: Democrats winning the Gerrymandering war
If serving in DC wasn’t such a lucrative gig, gerrymandering would never happen. If we truly want to clean up the House and Senate we need to:

1. Pay legislators as the part-time employees they are.
2. Institute term limits
3. Make political contributions illegal
4. Fund all campaigns with tax dollars
5. Eliminate PAC’s and Lobbyists

Bottom line: No public servant should ever become a millionaire serving in DC.

These are the minimal actions that need to be taken. Until politicians of BOTH parties agree to do these things, along with other reforms, all the whining about the other party is just noise.

If there is a Great Re-set it needs to start in DC. Until citizens come together and take back our government from the special interests nothing will change.

Citizens of both parties need to come together, arm themselves and march on DC. This event needs to scare the sh*t out of every politician, on both sides of the aisle, when it happens. It needs to make what happened last year look like a Sunday social.

Mark my words, if and when this starts, organizers will be labeled domestic terrorists, anarchists or whatever colorful term those in power can use to marginalize the efforts of Patriots.

We need to make a government of the people by the people for the people a reality again.

We don’t need another Civil War with citizens being manipulated by the powers that be in DC. We need a 2nd American Revolution.

None of that matters if districts are set up to intentionally put in place strong majorities of voters of a particular party. Whoever of that particular party will almost always win whether it single-member, non-partisan primaries or ranked-choice-voting.

Getting rid of gerrymandering is very simple. Just have redistricting only done by either a neutral computer algorithm or by a bipartisan independent committee. That's how many states already do it. And most of these were set up when Democrats were in control. I'm not aware of Republicans ever setting something like that on their own. Democrats did it with Virginia just a few years ago.

At the end of the day, a certain number of people will control the maps. It is what it is. Even if you “get rid of gerrymandering,” how do you know if the maps are objective?
